S.O.S How much to pay?!
Hello,
i have bought a 230 GE 1986 SWB three months ago and it has some bubles of rust on the bonnet and in the back (rear lights and door) that i want to fix.
I have two questions and i hope you will help me!
Does anybody know how much money will be considered as a good price for this job?
Do you know where to go, providing that i am leaving in W2 London?
i am studding in London, sorry for my basic english.
Thanks in advance!
Konstantinos,
Your English is very good
However, there is a difference between
"Studding"
&
"Studying"
A Freudian slip perhaps
I cannot, alas, advise as to what reasonable London repair rates would be.
Cheers

same old same old
I did see the humour in his mistake though
Come on lads there are loads of you that do repairs all the time lets help this new member out even with a guide price .
I dont think that you will get a good price in London as it will be very expensive. Try maybe panel/ spraypainter outside of the city.
Dont worry somebody on this forum will give you a rought idea of how much would be to much or to little to start worry.

I was given a quote of £5k for a total body repair for my pervious G... but they needed some new panels for the rear corners of the body. I guess if your G doesn't require panel replacement... would cost somewhere between 500 - 1k for the bonnet and door??
I really don't know much, but hope this information helps anyway!!
Hmmmmm - Even though I have asked, no one at MB can give me a straight answer on the G and the magic MB 30 Year paint guarantee. Surely if it was a UK spec model and was designated so, would it not be covered under the 30 year plan?

Hi we have fitted 3 sets of rear corner inner and outer panels and cropped the bottom off four back doors and remetalled them...new corner panels now GBP 107 + vat each.our labour rate at GBP 25/hr runs the job into around GBP 450..the hardest thing is matching the oil based paint..EU regulations say only water based paints must be used and they do not bond to oil based surfaces....some truck painters still use oil based but find it hard to match MB colouirs....you can get a touch up kit from MB if you quote them the VIN number of your G' GBP 8.25 + vat...a commercial paint shop will then be able to match the original colour.....
Peter
My understanding was that is was OK & perefectly legal? to use a suitable ie oil based paint to match the existing, probably getting harder to get though with most of the body shops doing the water based now.
Edit
Re colour matching
Our local respray specialist maintains that he has to match by eye/blending himself as neither of the two local suppliers are any good with paint codes :?:
OO! Oil based paint are illegal now in the EU?? No wonder there is no more tamiya spray cans avaliable!

Spider1VDo you know anyone that has painted his G for free under this guarantee?
i dont!!!
today i am going to get a quote for my car, from a garage in London...
I know people who have had imported Gs taken care of by MBUK but they had newish Gs.
I have been meaning to take mine down to MB to get it looked at as they seem to think it may be covered....
Spider what has been the feedback on yours? Though perhaps now its a mute point?
