Hi all, I have a new problems lately. My G is hard to start its engine, after like 6-7km journey. anybody have any idea? its been annoys me, because when its happen i have to wait around 30-45 minutes then car will start, sometimes more than 1 hour. My engine itself is in good condition, and i also had changed the fuel pump relay. This has been to me twice in the last 2 days, my father experienced the same too.

Thanks for ur time, im looking forward for any advice and suggestion for my G to go back in top condition. Cheers

Vacum in the fuel tank?

When the car stalls, try to open the fuel cap, if it takes að breater then its your problem.

Go to basics initially, check and Inspect the distributor cap and rotar arm.

Replace as necessary, other than that, I suspect the fuel accumlator problem. I do expected these ares to be checked out and problem confirmed before you go around renewing things as I mention it to you.

At your next starting problem, prime up the fuel presure system by switching-on the ignition, swicth-off, swicth-on and continued that process for a few times before starting, see if this imroves your difficult start.

There can be other resons for a difficult start, in particular lean fuel mixture, air leaks etc, but you have not mentioned some addtional faults which are present under these fault conditions so I do not thing thse areas could be at fault, hence I am putting my money on the fuel accumulator to test out firstly.

One other very overlooked area is check and adjust as necessary the valve clearences.

You don't say which car from your profile, the 1985 or 1994? I'm 99% sure it's the 1994...eheh

Re: engine hard to start after rather a short journey...

Thanks for the reply everybody, Yes its a G300 1994 Auto box, I've sold my 1985, kinda missed it. It's a little bit hard for me to say it, but the thing is that once I travelled to somewhere around 6-7km or more, I cant start my engine right after it. I dont know why, I have to wait around 30-45 or sometimes more until the engine will start again. It's like when turn your key to switch the ignition on, then turn it again to start the engine is phase that sometimes wont work. Im about to go to nearest Merc workshop in my area to get it check and see if I can get more input.
Thanks again guys.

Re: engine hard to start after rather a short journey...

Hello again,
Had a bit of a similar problem with my 1991 300GE (basically same engine). From memory I changed the following:
fuel pumps (both of them), fuel filter, accumulator, distributor rotor arm and cap, ignition coil, spark plugs and leads) but it seemed the one thing that did it for my case was the fuel pump relay. But seeing as you've already changed that I guess that should be good (I assume you put a new one in?).

Is the problem that the engine cranks (turns) but does not fire? Another issue I had was a very lean mixture as Rakesh points out. Took it to a garage with a CO tester and got it fixed quickly with a long-reach 3mm hex key.

Good luck with it!

Cheers Gents, my suspicion are with the alternator or maybe the dynamo starter. Is it possible?

The fuel mixture is leaner when the engine is hot..look at the fuel system and vacuum system for degraded components hoses pipework....the inside of the exhaust pipe or the tips of the spark plugs will tell you if the problem is lean mixture..the coating will be light grey or white..it should be reddish/brown
