My G (1988 280GE) has been off the road for a little while and i am just preparing it for an MoT. I've had a niggly little water leak for a while now and put it down to the back of the radiator as i really couldnt see where it was coming from. Today however the little leak is a stream and it appears to be coming from a 'blanking plate' on the engine block under the exhaust manifold. Has anyone had a similar experience and is it difficult to repair?

cheers, James

Re: Help - Water Leak

Hello James,

I can't say as I have ever seen or heard of leaks from the area you have described, but theoretically it is possible. I would think they are not difficult to replace, the gasket, but it would be difficult to scrape the old gasket off. I suggest you use some gasket remover to assist you in removal of the old gasket. Take care in using these products, they are acid based, wear working gloves, laytex of vynal's.

As a short term measure I suggest using the liquid form of radiator stop leak to help you seal this leak, after adding this to your cooling system, check regulary thereafter.
