Thanks for that. The pics fo the white G's are actually Sheikh Maktoum's cars (Dubai ruling Sheikh). Also the first pic with the Rolls is also in UAE and is the new Atlantis Hotel.

Here is a pic of the Sheikh's car.

I have a feeling in my water that it won't be long before nobody has that sort of personal wealth anymore. The "system" is collapsing and the changes, they are a comin' :D Sooooon! Just hang on tightly, please.

Its just a correction. Sizemic, but just a correction. Plus I think you will find that Sovereign wealth funds are the only people with real cash right now as opposed to borrowed money.

Talking of corrections.....Seismic, but extraordinarily apt, nevertheless! We'll see.

yes, Capitalism is collapsing under the weight of its own contradictions, not as Marx predicted through the tendency of the rate of profit to fall but because of greed, stupidity and fraud. Problem is what to replace it with, I wish I had the answer.
So I expect that the existing shambles will struggle on for a while yet, only really scary thing is that it took a world war to get the world economy out of the last monumental financial collapse.

pp you serious?? just in case you are, such ppl also do a lot of good, which doesn't get half as much publicity as all the "wealth" and spending, which isn't always attributed to the right person (like that atlantis hotel fireworks display, was a private event that had little to do with the state).

some examples of charitable initiatives and endowments:

http://www.mbrfoundation.ae/English/Pages/Mission.aspx (US$10bn endowment)

Yes I am, it's still gross , I worked in and supplied to Saudi arabia,Bahrain etc for 10 years and had it rammed down my throat how generous they are yet I saw many things working in the medical industry that contradicted there views and religion. and how I had to pay backshee on every order, you still don't need such wealth. Al maktoum is I agree a little different, in the early 90's when I was working for Laings, did a lot for the community in Newmarket, were we (Laings) refurbished the warren , his resisdence there. But still such opulence there was quite sickening and unecessary in my eyes. Same goes for bloody footballers, £50,000 for a watch , £300 gets you a nice one then give the rest to the local hospice.

Ah I see that's where the experience comes from. KSA is a land of contradiction unfortunately, a lot of the masses know no better but fortunately there are exceptions. "Bakhseesh" and palm greasing is much less common in Dubai, but tipping is something else and commonly accepted elsewhere (that's the general understanding of bakhshish here).

I'm less familiar with big deals but I'm talking about what happens on the streets. We're all too familiar with the BAE fiasco in the gulf and that's probably the tip of the iceberg :/ It's good to see your "other" side pp I normally just laugh at the jokes and move on, lol.

I think what has caused all this is " spelling mistakes" I mean I may not be a great speller but I knew this was coming years ago, went through of late eigthties , my home is safe, money in the bank and yet a Simple child am I, give me the purse strings of this nation and I'll get it out of the shit !

Thats the problem with the modern day. Too much reliance on a spell checker!

Peter I've lived and done Business in Saudi twice and never have I needed to grease the palms of an individual or company. Maybe at some levels it still happens but I've had no experience. Saudi is a country that has changed tremendously. When I was there 6 years ago I felt the country needed foreigners. This year I felt the new and educated generation had a real grip on the economy and business in general. 15 years from now I think Saudi is going to eclipse other countries like UAE in no oil industries.

Just got back from Pakistan. When I was there last Mr Zardari (Bhutto) was the first lady and was nicknamed Mr 10%. Now he's the President and his share has been increased accordingly!
