Elecrtic Window stuck...again
happened whilst driving through london at about 1am on Friday night - rolled the window down and it wouldn't go back up. needless to say it was freezing!!
i stripped the door panel down and couldn't find anything loose (which is what i was told was the problem last time).
the thing i noticed was that with all the interior lights on, pressing the window switch didn't seem to draw any power (nothing dimmed slightly as it would). Of course i checked the fuse and it was ok.
next morning, had another fiddle around and it seemed to start working (not sure what triggered it) but i noticed that the red tube in the pic below was split and the chain was going straight through the middle of it. i taped it up but that caused the next problem which is that it snapped off from the root (see pic). the window is working (for now) and i dont know if the split in the tube was related.
the question is, can i get a new tube or does the entire motor/regulator come as one? whilst i have it all open, is there anything else i can test to see what's not working?
thanks
Hi Sav the tube acts as a sheath to guide the spiral drive cable away from grating against any metal in the door...I find that water lying in the bottom of the door due to blocked drains rusts the section of the spiral drive that lays along the bottom when the window is shut..rusty particles collect on the motor gearbox and stop the motor from rotating...flushing the particles out is messy..remove strip clean and lubricate is time consuming and fiddly...fitting new is expensive and fiddly.....those are the only options....
can you redeem the existing tube ...it might be slightly shorter..or fit an alternative piece of tube like fuel hose instead......
hi sav, i am suprised you dont know a local turk in your area that could
fix that while you have a turkish coffee :P
had a problem with mine recently but it was not the electrics but the brown padding/ reinforcing stuff behind the red cable in your picture, the padding peeled away curling as it did, preventing the window from being wound back up. Easy fix though but a difficult to see problem 1st time round and needed a second go.
You can see the regulator in the picture when removed from the door. The vertical section on the left is where the red hose connects. That is where the wire cable exits from when the window is down. I repaired mine , cleaning is easy when you have it removed.
thanks...if im gonna buy a new one, i may as well give this one a go to clean it out - have nothing to lose it seems ('cept some time and patience!).
i take it getting a new red tube on it's own is probably going to be quite difficult though??
