Re: Lock on stainless rear wheel cover

micky117,

Unfourtunately, I do not have the address any longer at hand, but I have bought the locks seperately supplied.

Although, I had found another supplier who is only prepared to sell the lock and hinge together.

If you look at the company name stamped on the lock, then look them up on the internet, you will get your supplier. From memory, I think the M/benz steel wheel covers are the same as the after market suppliers.

Couple of inputs as I had the same problem:

1. You can buy new ones for Euros 25 at this company in Germany:

http://www.g-classics.com/

Click on the union jack at the bottom of the page for English. The exact webpage in their shop for the lock is:

http://www.g-classics.com/shop/category_22/Reserverad---Spare-Wheel.html...

The spare locks + keys are at the bottom right hand corner of the web page.

2. Another option is to go to a general store or locksmith. Take the old one with you (you can break it off by forcing a heavy duty screwdriver in and giving it a good hard turn) they are only held in with a simple circlip. You'll find the locks are fairly standard and are used for filing cabinets and post boxes (in blocks of flats). I found them for about £12 to £15. Pick the one closest to your old one - you may need to cut/grind down the lever piece that does the locking insided the handle.

I did mine this way (photo attached) - its not a MB part but I don't believe that MB make locks either so they get them from a volume supplier as well, so there's probably little difference in quality anyway.

Re: Lock on stainless rear wheel cover

Guys

Thanks for all your help and comments - really useful. This last week end I thought I'd give it some welly and having lubricated the lock as much as possible used a monkey wrench for extra leverage and turned the key with increasing force backwards and forwards when hey presto, it opened and the key is undamaged. teh underside of teh latch was full of crud but that didn't take long to clean out.

Why does achieving such silly little things make you so happy !!

So now I just have to get a couple of new keys.

Thanks again and have a great festive season and New Year.

Micky
