I have a cracked HT lead on my 230GE and need a new set urgently.
Does anybody know where in Hampshire I might find a set?

Re: Ignition Leads needed urgently

The old ones (talking about a 1991 300 in my case) had as original factory fit some bosch leads that come in 3 pieces, boot plug, cable, and head plug (i think). each can be ordered individually and hence replaced individually, if you still have one of those you only need replace the defective bit. hard bit is finding someone who still knows how to make one up, a good auto electrician should do it, or even your friendly MB parts desk, if a member of staff is "senior" enough :) yes they're a bit dearer from MB but it is good quality stuff...wish i'd know before going out and buying a recent BOSCH set that turned out to be rubbish (the rubber tore easily).

They must have been made by Bosch or Hella.... try the authorized dealer

Re: Ignition Leads needed urgently

Thanks for the advice. I tried Halfords and though they list Bosch items in their books, do not actually stock the right parts.
I have bought access to the M-B EPC so I think my best bet is to get the lead lengths from that and get the individual parts from a local motor factor and make them up myself.

Try Euro Car Parts.

From memory they had them in stock at the Southampton branch.

Hello Splatt,

The made up leads can only be got from M/benz dealer or a Bosch agent, I reckon they would have to order it in for you, therefor, you are better off at the dealers.

Just provide to them the chassis and or engine number and let them know which cylinder number the lead is required for, they will look up and make you one.

The lead comprises of three components, a) the spark plug end, b) the lead its self and c) the distributor end cap.

If you are able to unscrew these off your old lead (50:50 chance of undoing without damaging it) you could re- use it to make-up the new lead; however one could be acused of being pety, better to renew as a whole and be done with. That way you can be certain the lead is without possible fault.

Re: Ignition leads - where to get them

Thanks to all. I have been able to get a single lead of theright length today taht will allow me to use my truck for a trial tomorrow. That gives me more time to het a complete set from my nearest M-B deaer, or elsewhere.
From my past experience with my BMW cars and Range Rover off-roader, its best to replace HT leads as a complete set, so that's what I will do.

Re: Ignition leads - where to get them

Final update

Went into Mercedes Benz in Dorchester at lunchtime. The very helpful chap on the Parts desk said they would be very happy to make up a set and sell them to me for over £100 and suggested I would be better going to the local autospares shop and getting a set for much less money.
So that's what I did !

Re: Ignition leads - where to get them

Hi Splatt. Can you remember what you paid? Just had two quotes for a full set of £64 and £88 (7 leads in total). I thought that was a lot but if MB were quoting over £100 for your 4 or 5 then maybe not. Cheers.
