What is the best engine option for a LPG conversion???
Hi GWO's,
I am wondering what the best (petrol)engine (W463) option is for a LPG conversion? Budget is around 18.000 euro, so probably a 300 or 320 (v6).
Would love to have a 500, but that is too expensive.
Thanks,
Rick
Hi 300 limits you to single point injection LPG with the potential of backfire damage....any engine using BOSCH Jetronic mechanical fuel management will have the backfire exposure...320 will accept multi point injection LPG with little or no chance of backfire damage....
Had a 230 and 280 on gas with single point, in the 5 years I run them had 3 backfires, 230 was a dream on LPG, can't vouch for the 300 engine and above but Shakir has his 300 on LPG and think he is very happy.
I have the LPG installed on my 300GE(KE Jetronic) as second fuel.
It backfired but the reason was weared out HV components and vacuum leak.
Single point LPG system is very sensitive for any slight disturbance in HV or air supply(valves settings incl.).
If it works on a 230 engine (M102), I think that it ought to work on a 300 (M103) given that it is basically the same engine with two more cylinders...
i had lpg on my 280 gel . it was a 1990 model and had a 'bedini' system fitted in 1991. this means it ran on lpg for a long long time...
i ran the 280 for a year and it only backfired once. but that was due to the fact the system was old. lpg is electrically tempermentel. new leads, ngk iridium sparks are a must.
main issue is finding a good installer.
shakir used battersea lpg centre.
i however have other plans for my G300 soon....!
Hi, i drive a 320 in line with a multi point lpg. and it works perfect
Hi everyone I am here. Thanks for mentioning me. Obviously the sequential system is more superior to the single loop system and lpg conversion will be perfect on a 320. Nevertheless , mentioned many times before, it will work fine on a mechanical injection system providing necessary precautions are taken.
i.e
good valves/good cyclinder head
electrical componenets etc.
