Re: a nice one from ireland.....

Hi the plate on the axle diff housing will tell him ..I also wondered about the rotation... he may have to fit a rear diff...the axle he took has no difflock provision and the rear axle I still have is the same.......

Re: a nice one from ireland.....

Hi it appears that the 5 speed manual uses 5.286 ratio diffs as standard whereas the 300ge auto and manual uses 4.875 ratio diffs.... factory options are 4.111. 4.375. 4.857. 5.286. and 6.167 ratios using 5 gear manual GL76/27K-5 and auto W4A 028 gearboxes.and VG 150 transfer boxes throughout.....

Ian, as per my post on P3 my 1979 240 has 5.3 axles with 6 bolt flanges these were upgraded in later models to 5.286 dif and 8 bolt. Tell your friend to be sure he checks the diffs especially if the axle has 6 bolt flanges.

Re: a nice one from ireland.....

Hi All,
Good day, the mans name is Mick and I had the good fortune to compete with him at this years 3 peaks challenge. He was a winch monkey for his mate Steve. A nice guy with great skills and interests namely G wagens and trail bikes.

Have a look at www.leinster4x4.com and go into the Our vehicles section and then look under Mick's toys for some more pics.

The pic shows the G wearing 37" tyres I believe but he has since discovered they are not suitable and is modifying accordingly.

Regards,

Mike

Re: a nice one from ireland.....

He would obtain a considerable boost in performance
If he reduced the weight of that centre mounted rear shackle
