Used Cooking oil for fuel
Hi all,
Iam living in Pakistan, Diesel prices have gone very high and i am a frequent traveller, it is easier to find used cooking oil. My question is that can I use it in my G wagon engine 123? Does it need any conversion?
I try to find answers in our forum but I am quite confused Any help would be appreciated & welcomed.
Thank you,
Jimmy.
Used cooking oil needs to be filtered and have any impurities such as water or food scraps removed . It is better for your engine if you can convert it to bio-diesel but a 300GD will run it otherwise. If you travel you can get portable centrifuge units for filtering used cooking oil on the go.
Also if you are using it in cold temperatures you will either need to get some sort of preheat system or dual fuel unless you are using bio-diesel.
BTW in some instances you have to be careful of the veg oil breaking down rubber seals. This is not the case in newer Gs but I don't know when they changed the seals.
Tsk tsk , listening to the BBC weather too much
it is either cold or the temperature is low

i have used 'used cooking oil for years, simply filter it from one container to another using a large funnel & use old cotton sheets, torn into strips for a filter. pour thru & let it filter, some times it takes forever, the larger the funnel the better, you can fill it & leave it over night ......Get all the scraps out of it !!
Then mix 10 litres of filtered cooking oil to 1 litre of kerosine, for summer use 2ltr in winter..it will need the standard fuel filter cleaning more regular , but buy them in bulk at about £2 each ...they will last 6-8 k miles depending how you filter your oil in the 1st place.
good luck.
