Wanted Alloy for spare wheel will it fit?
Hello very new to this forum as joined yesterday and it is a fantastic website worth every penny of the 25 GBP annual fee, Anyway does anyone know if a standard Alloy wheel, the ones i have on my 250GD lhd 5 speed as (per photo) will fit on the back door as a spare wheel ? and any problems i may have, what are the wheels officially called by Mercedes ? Thanks Anna Spanner the girl mechanic that can tighten any nuts ! IF IT WILL FIT DOES ANYONE HAVE ONE OR KNOW WHERE I CAN GET ONE FROM AND COST THANKS Spanner Anna
hi and welcome. would be nice to go into the introduction heading too.
with lots and lots of pics of your fantastic looking G
as for the alloy wheel question, it shouldnt be a problem i reckon. older G's had the face of the wheel facing out, later 460's were fitted like yours to keep the weight of the wheel closer to the door.[ i know this because my first 300GD leaked water from the top of the door due to the weight of the big alloy wheel face mounted away from the door.
as for where to find an alloy wheel like that one, try guido at industrytools24. he is on ebay.de
excellent man to do business with. honest and quick!!
good luck.
i had a G in the same colour too. it was a 300GD with a turbo fitted when i got it.
nice colour, think its called Impala.
very classy.
Hi Huss, Yes i thought it was called Impala aswell until a nice guy from Spain answered me back saying it was Moevengrau Metallic paint code 7728 (forgot his username) and being new to this i bow to better judgement/knowledge, still getting new to this as just sent 2 pictures the same, idiot lol, prefer to have a spanner in my hand than this keyboard, spanner Anna
Hello Anna, I am the "nice guy from Spain" and your was the most difficult paint code I have ever to look into....
Yours looks like a very well kept and original 250 and with quite expensive and rare options such as the aircon.
As to your original question, was the G factory fitted with the alloy wheels? You can check this in the car's MB datacard; if you don't have it, give me the VIN and I'll have it checked with my EPC.
If the G wasn't factory fitted with the alloys then the spare wheel holder won't work because its bolts are too short for the thickness of the alloy wheels section: the standard steel rims material is thinner. I am assuming that that holder was factory fitted to and so will correspond to the orginal fitment of rims in your G.
In any event it's not a big deal. My W463 G300D came originally with the 6x16" steel rims (no wide fenders either) and was later fitted with 6x16" alloys but kept with the original spare. When I sourced an additional alloy rim as spare, I had longer bolts welded to the holder by my mechanic. Nothing that a girl nicknamed spanner Anna can't handle!
As to the question on where to buy the spare rim, the first thing is to make sure that the new one is exactly the same as the other four. Looking at the pictures, it looks to me that the rims fitted to your G are the 7J x 15 H2
R4 ET 37 mm alloys, optional to all W460/461 G Wagens, part number A 460 401 00 02, but to be 100% check it with any wheel, the part number must be engraved somewhere. For more information, check here: http://www.rubicon-trail.com/G-Class/wheels/start.html
Once you know what wheel you are looking for, your best bet is german Ebay, where you can find one of these for as cheaply as € 60 (rim alone).
Cheers!
Isa, you think you are a smooth talker....
you sure are
if she really is a snap-on perfectionist, she will want to sort the wheel carrier out, and i bet guido will look after her with the wheel carrier once he realises the pirelli calender isnt just make believe
It is crystal clear: It's got codes P39 and R78 so therefore factory fitted alloys: consequently holder must have longer bolts to hold alloy wheel.
Cheers
Hi Mortinson, so are you saying that if i can find the correct alloy it will fit with no further modification ?
Next the Data you have is the same as the one i have and did not really know how to read it ie Options: are these that what was fitted to my vehicle (all of them) when it was ordered and left the factory, if so will go and do a check list on my G on Monday.
Do you know then by this the correct wheels/size and name ? sorry still new to this bit,
Thanks again oh Master, Spanner Anna. Its nice to be nice more people should try it and the world would be a better place x
As I said, it looks to me that your G was factory fitted with option R78, ie. "7J x 15 H2 R4 ET 37 mm alloys, part number A 460 401 00 02"
This being the case, you can buy and fit one of these wheels into your spare wheel carrier without further modification. Just make sure that te size of the tyre you fit into it is the same as the other four in your car.
Thanks Mortinson, going to call you Morty if thats ok as you are the coolest guy around and with info like you have you deserve the respect i have for you. Why arnt all men as helpfull as you ? Keep up the good work and you will have a place above, thanks Morty the almighty regards Anna (sorry a litle eccentric sometimes) x
You are very welcome to call me Morty, Jesus or even the fanatical Spaniard
Some call me Isa (إس) in this forum too 8)
Testing, not sure if the Arabic characters work with the Mac..sorry Morty the perfectionist in me had to correct the spelling, it only works on yamli.com if you use 3eesa (3 being the number we use to represent the Arabic letter known as "ain" which doesn't exist in any other language I know (all 2 of them lol).

Hi Hus55, many thanks for coming back to me, it is people like you that made me join this fantastic website, the best 25 GBP i have ever spent.
I have just read the bit about introduction heading and will now do that (did not know about it being new here 3 days old member). I bought my G 2 years ago and over time due to work comitments have got her into the standard she is in now. Really enjoyed working on her and the BUG just grew and grew. Now just need finishing touches to get her back to how she was when new from the factory along with a few options that she could have had, will send a few more photos of her asap. Will now also go on ebay to find this guy you have supplied and see what he has, many many thanks an take care Spanner Anna
