Fuel pump relay on a 1986 280.
I suspect my fuel pump relay is retiring.Because it is refusing to give electric to the injection pump. although this is happening very rarely at the moment I cannot see it getting better.
1. Can you fix this relay? is it worth it?
2.How much is a new one?
All help is appreciated
Hello Shakir,
With intimate electrical knowledge and background it is possible to repair.
If it is worth repairing? Only if you know an electrical wizz kid.
A new after market one is apporoximately, or was around £60.00. Euro Car parts should be able to supply. If not, try any reputable trade motor factors in your area, the will be able to locate one.
Regards,
Have a small length of wire of approximately 3" to 4" long, with its insulation at both ends striped off about 1/2".
Should your car breakdown, use your wire to bridge terminals 7 & 8 of the relay plug and force the relay into the plug, as quiclkly as possible, start your car, with the pump working, the engine should start. If not, the problem remains, possibly with the relay or other areas to be checked out. These being the ignition coil or even the ignition pack.
Remove the bridging as soon as possible.
You can try and dismantle the relay yourself, look out for any dry solder on the printed circuit, if you locate any, re-solder the joint.
Good Luck,
Whats the part number? I ask just in case it's a shared component from another model 280 of that era.
Hello Shakir,
One of the Russian sites puts it at €100 on the continent, so that's about £100 here
http://mbspares.chance.ru/?type=A&partno=0015450705&op=Search
£100 from Inchcape http://www.mercedes-benz-parts.co.uk/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&sku...
Still trying to find out if there is any cross model compatability, which might source a cheaper s/hand unit.
Sometimes an ebay search (select the EU regional option) with the part number reveals some good options, though used ones from Germany tend to be overpriced for what they are (more than half the cost of a new one!)
Shakir,
I had a friend run a parts compatability check through Daimler's EPC and indeed there is compatability with other models. Here are the results for part number A0015450705
Market Type Platform Model (digits 4-6 in chassi no)
Nordamerika PKW 123 053
Nordamerika PKW 123 033

Nordamerika PKW 116 024
So I'd ask a breaker if they could match the part from either a W123,W126 or a W107.Hopefully this will give you a cheaper alternative to a new one at £100

Shakir
the part number will be the same on the relays the model number of the vehicle would be W123 ,W126 or W107. So for instance go to someone breaking a W123 280E and just match the part number.Try giving Dave Collins at Millhouse Mercedes a bell he breaks the above models and will happily post parts, tell him Bear recommended him to you.
thanks rakesh,
my one is OK most of the time, but occasionally it refuses to work, after a little bit it starts again. it is most probably the relay.
