there's a first time for everything..

me (withmy stock 300GE) and another friend of mine with a stock 280GE went to survey a 'soon-to-be-opened' offroad park about 30 minutes outside jakarta last sunday.

i finally got the chance to take that first offroad trip i've been wanting for a while.

after calling the one of the owners, we finally got the permission to 'survey' the tracks for future club agenda. and since no one else was there, we owned the park!

there weren't any signs (since it's not yet open for public) so we pretty much went everywhere we wanted. originally planning to try out the beginner's and intermediate courses, we got lost and wandered to the 'expert' part.

all in all, not bad for my first time offroading.
all lockers worked well, the low range as well.
we managed to do all but two climbs.
pity all we had were A/T tires. i think we could've done the whole park with proper M/T tires.

park entrance

1st climb where i chickened out
this is the view from the top of the hill, note the mud puddle at the bottom of the hill. i wasn't going to get stuck there with my A/T tires

this is how deep it was on the edge. no idea about the middle of the puddle. apparently the rain on saturday night washed down some more mud into the pit. do you guys think i could've gone through?

this is me, turning back in front of the mud pit

the 2nd climb i failed. after 3 attempts, i figure i better head back before i hurt myself

this was as far as i got, loose and soggy dirt gave my A/T tires no tractions at all, with all lockers engaged :x

some of the smaller hills

needless to say, i am terrificly excited about the whole experience and can't wait for the next trips.
though i'm hoping for a more scenic cross country trips this time

Yep, ultimately tyres are the limiting condition
Perhaps letting the pressures down would have helped
though you are correct in that you did not have an agressive off road tyre fitted.
It is FAR FAR too dry though
need a bit of "glar"
for proper fun

You would not believe how much a proper M/T tyre improves traction in terrain such as that one.

Congratulations on your loss (of your virginity, I mean!)

thank you all for your replies :)

yes, it's a pity the G has to be on A/T tires since it's my daily driver
although i like to aggressive look of the M/T (who doesn't), they won't be so practical if you have to be on the highway everyday, will it?

won't be so easy next time after a big rain though, although more fun is probably right. i was somewhat disapointed the G was so poised, it didn't get mud all over for a better photo-op :) the lockers were working superbly

That's because you weren't trying hard enough!

I manage to get mud on the inside of my rear side windows without trying... still can't quite work out the physics of that one since it would require the mud to first enter the car and then change direction and try to arc outwards again... :?

the mud entered from the other side of the window..
lucky you didn't get mud all over the interior ceiling, would not be something fun to clean :(

nope the splatter pattern wasn't right and it was too low (would of been blocked by headrests) - also would of still been a pretty extreme angle for the mud to arc across through front passenger window to rear cargo window.
