Steering Wheel Lock
Hi Guys,
Every now and again, the G seems to "freeze" ie I cant seem to ge the steering wheel to move or the key to turn in the ignition. It takes me putting it into neutral, rolling it a little, then back into park for it to work again...or sometime foot on the brake...its driving me nuts! :x Any tips?
Thanks,
Ferdi
Not sure why putting into N and rolling helps.
But i'd get a new barrel as soon as you can, it's a small job to replace a barrel that still turns, but a pain if it's stuck in the locked position.
The barrel is disigned to only be removed from its housing while unlocked.
Mine went in a petrol station, blocked off the use of 2 pumps while waiting 3 hours for recovery,
Sorry, i wasn't very clear.
The barrel is where you put the key in. Can't remember what it cost, but it's not very much, between £20 & £40 i think.
If it goes completely in the off position, you may need a new barrel housing, about £80, + the possibility of 5 or more hours labour.
You will end up with a different ignition key, which needs to be put in the key fob so the immobilser works. Make sure you get a new key cut from the old ignition key, so you will still be able to unlock the doors in case you ever get a flat battery.
Alternatively you can get a new barrel + the 2 door locks, but thats a special order, (about 10 days) and around £200 i think.
Unfortunately a common problem. But as Mark says cheap to replace while you can and major surgery to replace otherwise.

SOrry for a dumb question..what is the barrel? and any idea cost to replace?
