Hi,

Well i've kinda had a huge problem...I took the petrol tank guard off and straps etc and forgot about it (had it off for a good 4 months so forgot !!)

So I had a bet with some mates that the g wagen would climb a hill easily...So any way I took it around a sort of big field and the next thing I know my mate who was on a quad was shouting at me saying my petrol tank was falling off.

Stopped the car and i was coming off bad! the side that you fill it up had come off and petrol was pouring everywhere...It looks like the tube that goes from the secondary tank to the petrol tank has just come off and needs clipping back on!

Heres the catch my friend (who's quite a bit older than me so knows a bit) said that mud had gone in the tank and it needs to be emptied out of petrol and cleaned...I have no problem with this but i need to know what i should look out for when taking it off!!!!

Hope you can help as I still need to tackle this hill!!!!!! :P

Many thanks
Joe

Re: Need Major help!!! about Petrol tank!

buy new replacement straps, fabricate your own tank guard out of galvanised or stainless steel and take great care not to get petrol in your eyes and ears as I did when confronted with a similar problem. Allow for stretch in the ancillary hoses which connect to the top of the tank and the pump. Check the condition of the tank itself, if its rusted through its unlikely you will find a welder brave/courageous/foolhardy enough to tackle it so you will need either to find a 2nd hand replacement or bite the bullet and buy a new one. Not a particularly difficult task to fit but fiddly, cleaning mud out is the least of your worries it should just washout in petrol.
