Hi I would say that it is BER (beyond economical repair) at least a re-shell and front end chassis distortion would be the main problem......sad to see and better left to the breakers demise......
Hello chacha, :D
If the labour rates are any thing in H/Kong as they are here in the U.K.; in my opinion, I would say the repair of this vehicle would fall in the 'beond economical repair' category.
 A inspection of the chassis - ladder frame is necessary initally. If there is no doubts to any damage to it, it then, would be worth considering the other repairs.
:( Failing the PROPER straightening of the body, to which I am doubtful of, you are looking to replace the body, without checking, one can only guess at its' cost! Replacing all the damaged items at M/Benz prices is not going to be cheap. Overall, this project is a poor starter. The end result will most likely reflect the constitution of the repairers' and their skill.
How many passionate repairers can you locate in your area? Who will be well equiped with straighten jigs and the vehicle dimensions to check data againgst?
Regards,
If the engine still works transplanting it into another g-wagen might be an option but only if its a bargain but when you factor in transportation to HK this is hardly likely shame really, perhaps it will be re-cycled as a Skyline
Definitely a parts car. Plus if you did buy it and managed to restore it you probably would have a very difficult time insuring it, since it is most definitely a write-off in insurance books, and again would have problems if you wanted to sell.
looking at the yen exchange rate it comes out at a little over £1600 which is not a lot of money given the parts value, so it make well make you money just breaking it!
I doubt that it is worth £1600. What can you slavage with any certainty?

Well, i would say that most of the interior is intact, plus axles, engine (except for radiator), gearbox, transfer case... Obviously transport costs are an issue.
is the North West passage open? Freight might not be as much as you think.
well he only needs to get it to HK - so if it is going via the NW Passage from Japan then he will be paying an awful lot....
I was brought up in Hong Kong... moved to the UK when i was 12 but go back occasionally... i have never seen a G in HK :'(
No Max, I meant to bring it here, at such a low price and with such high value saleable items on the car it might be worth it, in addition to what was mentioned above, the alloys, the fuel tank, catalyst, rear doors and above all the engine if its running. If this was available here at that price dozens would be queuing to buy so the real issue is transport costs. Breaking the car in HK without a market would mean having to transport the parts great distances making it uneconomic which would not be the case in GB. If the NW passage is open this cuts the journey time/distance travelled by 2/3rds. A business opportunity for some one with the language skills and the sea freight knowledge.
oh yea definitely worth it if you can be bothered. 4 good rims (incl spare), stainless cover, running boards, interior, engine, floor pan etc etc
I think that at £3000 its a bit of a bargain, if anyone wants the interior I would want the engine which would cover it, sell the rest, pm me if anyone is interested.
It is possible that the engine front cam chain casing is damaged from the impact and also the oil pan which could damage the oil pump. Also when the radiator was damaged oil/water could have been pumped to places it was not meant to go. eg water in auto box, sump. Risky business buying it blind
I want the headliner and windows if you do go ahead. But have no need of the interior. I'm sure you could get a few hundred for the OEM side steps too.
thanks Roly, there are probably easier ways of getting one of these engines.
Having had the pleasure of taking a 460 down to nuts and bolts-----without having to worry about putting it back together.... this has to be the ultimate.
No way is it economic to repair....but as a breaker + a learning tool...priceless!!
No takers? Might just go for it!!

If you know where, for a few hundred?? much more surely?
Tried to buy this.....even had to register with the disposal company.
Eventually got a reply that they didn't actually have it and couldn't therefore accept my offer.
Methinks it is an Insurance company fishing for a value...
Pity...had my socket set all ready!!
Cheers
Thanks for your advice! so I will not be buying it.
Regarding transportation to UK, "all in" price including purchase and delivery to Southampton is around GBP3000.
