Never said it was new...
129 for mine fully comp with limited miles
Hi, I have a 300GD
I currently pay £160.71 through Local Broker.
You should shop around more for insurance when it's due for renewal. Maybe join MBOC, as they get discounts through Peter Best, I think. Although I found them a little on the pricey side.
Car used daily for local journeys, for anything a little farther afield I use V280 or 500 SEL. :D
it costs me about 2k!
Ouch! You'd better shop around! That is significantly more than I am paying for a V reg in central London! I knew someone paying less than £400 on a G400.
Young drivers are crippled with high insurance.
When I first passed my test insurance was high, but the percentage it has increased in comparison to income is astronomical.
Hopefully once you get some no claims discount, the premiums will be more reasonable.
Try joining a Mercedes Club.
try putting a parent as a second driver, it knocks a hell of a lot off of it

Ring Sureterm Direct 0845 20 20 230 I got my G on a classic car policy fully comp in central London for under £500!
They specialize in 4x4 and classic car insurance and were the cheapest I could find.
300GD was my first car.. :-D I paid for it all myself
My 22nd ...
Still worth shopping around. Some insurers such as Adrian Flux give a members discount.

Try the above link - we had a thread listing some of the most compeditive around. Frankly I found Flux more expensive than MBUK. Elephant etc etc.
Luck

I've got it as my first car (now) although i've yet to drive it on the road...Just as I fix one thing something else happens!!!! One day i'll be able to drive it :(
My son drove mine when he was 11, off road of course. I seem to remember that it was at a owners club event so he probably drove pretty close to some of you :!: :!:
The best bit was his dad double take as he drove past ............and then the look of horror on his face
Thats the great thing about automatics.......anyone can drive them :!:
I don't mean this to turn into a contest but you've just awoken a memory.
Each year when shooting at Bisley (after the ranges had closed of course) my two boys drove my manual 461 over the open ground. There was one flagpole in the middle of around three acres of open ground but we came close a couple of times. They were nine when they started.
I've just been reminded by the eldest that he actually changed up into second and third (I don't remember that) and I once let him park it in the bay next to the caravan (I don't remember that either).
Now they're 21 and 19 neither of them has taken a test or show any desire to drive at all. Perhaps they think they've reached the acme of motoring pleasure already.

One of the events earlier this year - My Daughter (Fran) at 5 and a half does this qualify? - and yes she did the whole of the longest Ford in the UK! (I Blame Dentsmithy for her initial interest in off roading! thanks Chris! :P  )
Spider1V - One Hellav chuffed dad!
What a great picture. The smile on her face! That's just how my boys faces beamed :D
My boys were quite tall for their age, your daughter has long strong legs.
Of course my daughter aged about 3 was on the front cover of the G-Wizz at the wheel of my G. Couldn't reach the pedals though so this probably doesn't count :!:
Her face was so smiley though - she still loves our big green wagen.
I don't mean to move away from the fun part of the posts but these events can be be very important and give the children a huge boosts in confidence. The youngest was a little in the shadow of the eldest but made a great fist of it all when it was his turn (argueably better than the eldest) and my wife and I both noticed a change in him. Much better than a high score on a computer game. Going now as I'm getting soppy.
Welcome back Helen - you've be quiet as of late.
Thank you - not been expressing my opinion, but quietly eavesdropping :!: This forum is a bit blokey for me really, I've been chatting on another forum where there are more women.(and no G-Wagens as far as i am aware!)
You lot do make me smile though - quite like Spiders sense of humour :D
You can blame that on the regulars. You will need to drag Dawny, OneLab and all our other female members out!
That sounds good - could we have a G ladies area  Only the men that are vaguely amusing need bother to pop in :D
Although actually Dawney and I don't need to use the forum - we just meet for coffee :P
How many female members are there :?:
More than we realise. I know at the 2007 AGM something was discussed for women members but I don't think anything ever came of it.
The funny thing is in London I see more women driving Gs than men.
The funny thing is in London I see more women driving Gs than men.
Not surprisingly. Mostly I have had company cars. This means that whichever G that has been around in the family for the last 12 years has been mostly driven by my wife Maria. Until I got fed up of having to worry too much about what I did with the G on the Sunday prior to the Monday when it was required to haul the kids to school: then I decided to buy Maria the 7-seater ML320 so that the G is only used for what it had so superbly been designed for: off-roading!
But going back to the original question of this thread. No, unfortunately the G wasn´t my first car. This is a list of what I have owned since I could afford to buy and run a car:
1987 Citroën AX GT red (bought new, sold in 1996 to a friend)
1987 SEAT Marbella L red (bought in 1991, still going strong with just 57 k miles)
1992 Opel Astra GSi 2.0 16v red (bought new, sold in 1998)
1995 Peugeot 405 TD Embassy dark blue (Company car, had it just for a few months in 1998)
1984 Mercedes W460 300GD SWB Astral Silver (bought in Spain in 1996 and sold in the UK in 2003 to a Romanian residing in Ireland!)
1998 Peugeot 406 TD Estate China Blue (Company car, returned in 2001)
1998 Mercedes W202 C180 Estate Auto Smoke Silver (bought in 2001, sold in 2005)
1991 Mercedes W463 G300D SWB Agave Green (bought in 2003, my current G)
2005 Saab 9-5 Estate 2.2 TiD Night Blue (Company car, returned in 2006)
2007 Volvo S-60 2.4 D Dark Blue (Company car, returned in 2008)]
1999 Mercedes W163 ML320 Silver (bought in 2007, used by the wife)
Oh er
at a guess
Blue renault 5 second hand 1978 I think, bought 1981ish
green VW POlo 2nd hand 1982ish, bought 1985 ish
White BX estate, bought 2nd hand 1992, 2nd hand
Red Galaxy bought NEW 1998, and still got
So over 31 years driving, only 4 cars only, not bad
Then and only then the three "G"'s = essentially hobby use
1st car Triumph dolomite
2nd Chrysler Horizon
3rd - 10th (very approx) a succession of MGB Roadsters
Beach buggy
Renault 5
Bedford Rascal
bike
Merc estate
Pegeout 304
G- WAGEN
Astra Estate (my one and only brand new car).
Just a few then - I have been driving since my 17th birthday as I could drive at a very young age and passed my test at 17 and 3 days or something silly and i am now 40ish. :!:
.......... and i am now 40ish. :!:
C'mon Helen! You surely must be much younger than that if one trusts the picture in your avatar!

Well as the one and only miss Piggy would say
'Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it may be necessary from time to time to give a stupid or misinformed beholder a black eye.â€Â
So thank you for that very kind and generous comment - you've escaped the black eye this time :!:

wooow!!
You must love it so so much! I am 20 and the only thing I have for 18 years is my pencil case, which my mum bought me when i first started kinder garten... I really want to keep my current G for a nice long time!
And... so so so embarrased after knowing helen passed her test when she was 17 and 3 days... I started learning to drive not long after my 17th birthday, but it took me slightly more than 3 years and 5 FAILURES!!
I lived on a farm and we crashed around in old minis and 2CV's at a very young age. Also as we lived in the middle of no-where (or so it seemed) so if I couldn't drive I had no social life or had to rely on mum and dad (very uncool) or hitch (which was frowned upon).
The best thing was, when I passed the tester said I should get some more practice before going alone on the road - so I went straight home and got the 1800 Triumph Dolomite out and sped off to tell all my mates down the pub:!:
I thought it was such a cool car - walnut dash, leather seats, chrome bits :P

What's the SL like? I don't see them that often... I much prefer the SL to the SLK
The SL AMG.... hmmmmmmmm
It is like meeting the Woman/ Girl of your dreams, beautiful to look at and will caress you for 1,000's of miles. But Like most beautiful women, they hide their prowess............ and IF you treat them well........ you can go to heaven and back as many times as you want! Hope that sort of answers your question?
Spider1V
Well it would probably be greedy to have both anyway..............................
(but all the guys around would be full of admiration:!: (and jealously, lust and hatred  )

hahaha!! ya, question answered, thanks! Don't think I want to have a SL and a beautiful girl friend at the same time in that case!!
Just trust me when I say, one never had a 'visually challenegd' girlfriend when I had the SL....... It was like living the ultimate dream.... Two beautiful women (with out the mud fighting ring).... and I'll let you work out the rest!
