G300 Engine Upgrade
Anyone sucessfully completed a supercharger installation?
I have a late, low mileage M103 and would like a little more power/torque primarily for towing.
Have considered engine transplant options (AMG 3.6, 270/290 Diesel etc) but these appear to to be considerably more work.
A moderate power increase to the M103 would seem a more feasible option if the additional fueling can be sorted.
Would welcome any comments and or experience from anyone who may have tried this
There was a company in the UK that used to fit a supercharger to the M103 engine in W124 saloons (so the kit is there if you wnat to fit it to a G300) but I don't seem able to find the internet link....
There was a amg version of this engine made 3.6L. not the 24v one. That would be the neatest solution. Diesels obviously would be a serious undertaking. That has got to be easier than supercharging.

Ja wohl! There was also a 3.6 Brabus conversion of this engine too... but the head gasket seems to be the weakest link and almost unobtainable these days.
The supercharging firm was in Essex and I was quoted £6000 ish fitted or £5000 diy, did have their e-mail address somewhere I will look for it, they had not fitted one to a g and were unwilling to let me contact anyone who had the kit fitted to a w124 so I was discouraged. I also looked at turbo charging as turbo technics produced a kit for this engine going so far as purchasing a new old stock twin turbo kit but there seems to be clearance issues with the steering rack so its still sitting in my garage, it may well fit a lhd vehicle if anyone overseas is interested, kit claims an easy 300bhp whereas supercharging claimed 260-280 bhp. I would like to know about enlarging the capacity of the engine so if anyone has undertaken such a modification please put the info online

Was in Brooklands MB World on Friday and notices an engine chip that Brabus are doing for Diesels’. Added another 55BHP and increase fuel economy. Of any use?

not really but thanks anyway, does anyone know if the longer throw crank shaft from a 104 3.2 litre engine can be fitted to the 3 litre 103 engine, they don't share the same bore but the 3 litre 24v 104 engine has the same bore as its 103 cousin. So in theory it would give a capacity less than 3.2 but more than 3.1???
I can't answer your question, but I know that the crankshaft from the 350 diesel was used in the 103 to make the 3.6L in conjunction with some boring. There was a good write up on a board in Germany about building your own 3.6L. Lost the page now unfortunately.
......I have a late, low mileage M103.....
Just out of interest, How late? RHD, I presume?
which vehicles had a straight 6 350 diesel, a lhd 140 series s class perhaps?
G300 is RHD 1996
Then one of just six imported in 1996.
Would you send me a few pictures for my collection? Or better still upload them here for everybody to enjoy them!
W126 & W140 was the only ones I know of. It was stopped when the 300 24v came out in '96.
The 350 diesel had problems unrelated to the crank, which meant many were scrapped. There must be many rusting away in yards in Europe and US.
Thanks for the responses - the 350 diesel crank to increase capacity is a new and interesting option.
I have seen the TDI conversions a while ago on the internet - looks very similar to one that Mosselman in the Netherlands used to offer - i have requested details from Mosselman as to whether this is still available - main issue i had was the methodolgy to increase fueling - although there are various aftermarket systems available. The Rotrex range of superchargers looked worth considering as they appear efficient and compact - will post info if i find more details.
