Re: New Vehicle

did it not have a tow hitch on it?

you could just leave the wheel bare, you could get a fabric cover or you could get a military centre cover if you have 16" rims.

Re: New Vehicle

Congrats on the purchase; hope you got a good deal on it.

Re: tow bar, you're in luck, there's a custom stainless steel one on ebay at the moment, 2 days to go:

Re: New Vehicle

These people seem to do quite discrete wheel covers for the G-wagen (and others)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MERCEDES-G-WAGON-SPARE-WHEEL-COVER-CHOOSE-YOUR-DES...

Good idea to get a padlock with a long shackle (8cm long, 3.5cm wide) to fit across the wheel-mount tube, to prevent theft. It fits in the two through-holes provided.

As for the tow-hook, the mounting on the 463 is quite high, up behind the rear bumper. Probably only an original item would fit properly at the correct height.

The ebay one mentioned may work, if it's made to measure, but note that if it does not come with an EC certificate of conformity, you may have trouble using it abroad, in Europe. In the UK, these things don't seem to get checked. However, maybe you can get the CoE just for the ball-coupling when you fit it to the bracket.

Re: New Vehicle

Nice G, let's have some details and pics. Don't rush into gassing it before you have put a few miles on it and checked the economy.

Re: New Vehicle

Will put up the spec and pics when have got it dirty, but sure everybody knows it bought it of Jim at Gold Seal. Am definately going to gas it as have gassed my previouis 2 G,s and have my own tank so you know it makes sense also think it will add to the value of the vehicle if I get the tank layout etc right. Oh by the way have ordered towbar form westfalia through Towequipe ref 313320 cost £153.81 complete with electrics bolts and fitting instructions.

I LOVE MY G500 :D driving it just makes me smile

Re: New Vehicle

Long or short? Where are you going to put the tank. My concern would be the limited range on lpg.

do you mean a storage tank for road gas ?how much a liter does that cost ? do you have a fleet running on it ? hypothetically speaking what stops people putting heating gas in such a storage facility..... if thats what you meant

Re: New Vehicle

Roly if poss going to try and configure 2 x Torp tanks under sills which should give 80 ltrs or more with approx 150 mile range. this is plenty given the availability of LPG now

j walker have a storage tank and pump costs me about 47p Ltr and have 2 gassed vehicles at the mo one G300 and Vauxhal corsa will be 3 with the G500... Yes you could pay less for heating gas but why take the risk as its cheap enough anyways

Well OK!

Welcome to the 500 brigade! Just love mine to pieces!! V fast - (*ahem* recorded officially at 128mph  - but that’s another story). Comfortable and as rare as hen’s teeth!

Have been following this thread as I thought about the 'Gas' conversion route but the extra weight, cost and hassle - is it really worth it? How long does it take to payback? - The best I can see is at 20K miles PA - 3 years at the least, and the way Governments are looking at ripping the motorist off just as it pays off they will start hiking the prices. (look at Diesel). But hey we have our own choices!

I was up in Abingdon (at the Water Medow) at the week end and ended up chatting with a few people who were asking about it in the car park, then took a trip through Didcot to see if I could spot the G owner there – no luck though.

I hope you enjoy the ‘Beast’ a bit before you have the conversion. So far it has been a big smile every day I take him out! BTW yesterday I had 16 people on my G!
