Re: Rear door wiring upgrade?

I fixed up the wiring where it enters the rear door, I seem to recall a bit of fiddly soldering plus changing the spring arrangment somehow.
Seemed to work
That is all
Cheers

Re: Rear door wiring upgrade?

I recently had to replace the hose in the rear door due to breakage (and one of the wires inside had a break in insulation). I consulted an auto electrician and he recommended replacing all the wires when changing the tube, as they will be old and brittle and if they fail again in the near future you will just have to redo the job. They served the car well for 17 years!

So I bought the supplies from them (and borrowed some tools) and did it. In total there are 11 wires going through on mine (5 for power lock, 4 for rear wiper, 2 for heated windscreen/earth) and I added 1 more for a third brake light. I actually passed a total of ~13 wires in case I want to add anything else later on (1 7-wire cable and 3 2-wire flat cables).

Took some photos on the way...to aid memory in case I mix up the wires, but fortunately that wasn't needed. All worked fine on completion.

last ones..

one last thing, when working on the rear door for a long time (and not disconnecting the battery) it's a good idea to disconnect the rear interior lights (if your door doesn't have the later pull-out-to-turn-off switch).

Great pictures.

Do you have MB part numbers for this? The thread on pointedthree talks about a 'kit' available? Is this an official kit?

Re: Rear door wiring upgrade?

Hi, the main thing I ordered was the hose, as the rest of the mechanism was in good order. The number for that I believe was A463 821 0097 (£6.55).
This thread refers to some more bits, if you search for "rear door loom".
I'm not that proficient with the EPC, but if I get a chance to log on to it later today I can try to get a kit number...

You really ought to have a look inside the rear quarter of a 463 to see the setup if you haven't before, it'll make installation on a 460 much easier!
