While unlocking the rear door of my 460 the barrel came out with key?

Anybody offer advice on putting back together? Is this common or has somebody had a go at it (no sign of any damage??)

Any help on rebuilding would be appreciated.

Hi You will have to remove the inside door handle(two 4mm bolts each side ) the manual locking knob (star screw) and the rectangular trim around inside opening lever (slide it to the left / right as there are moulded fastenings which break easily) and the door card ( wide screwdriver and the attachemt points) then look for a countersunk metalthread screw (5mm long) that holds the cam which is attached to a rod that actuates the locking mechanism... there will also be a circular spring with two tails which centres the barrel when the key is taken out..the screw may well be lying in the gunge in the bottom of the door and the cam may be hanging on the end of the actuating rod.....

Hi I have the exploded view on Microfisch with itemised parts but it does not show the screw or spring...probably sold as a handle assembly!!

That posting picture has the barrel and the little arm on the end held on by screw; you have to buy the whole lock/handle (with key code or chassis number and you will need proof of car ownership+address) to get any of it .. the EPC is useless on helping getting the back door apart.. the only bit I struggled with was that the clips around the internal handle unclip at the ends and then they slide up onto the main handle; then the vinyl will lift to show the 4 screws.. the main panels are just standard auto clips. I do have photos showing how most of it goes together if you need... but not the locking mechanism that grips the bodyshell. Getting that in and out is a right pain but you can by folding up the 2 rods and sliding it down .. but you should not need to get to that .. just the door handle you need to take out that is held on by the one internal 10mm hex head and the other one on the edge of the door (mine was an allen bolt for some reason).

Re: Rear door barrel tried to escape.

hi I would think the screw has come undone allowing the barrel to remain on the key,if you look at the thread size on the back of the barrel a screw should be all that you need to put it back together......along with the graunching in order to gain access to back of the handle.....

Re: Rear door barrel tried to escape.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Having removed panel I couldn't see how to remove external handle without taking all locking mechanism and internal handle etc etc... MB can't have designed it like this??? :?:

So after further investigation I undid the allen screw on door edge and bolt holding handle....like magic handle is off.

Retrieved latch piece from door bottom (screw still in luckily) and the screwed back onto end of barrel.

Refitted barrel, but latch piece wrong way...needs to point west (as you look from inside rear door).

Tightened everything up......bugger, pressing button won't open door???

Disassembled, wound out the 'other' screw on latch piece, reassembled...result works great. :D

Also got me thinking that passenger door catches on latch a little....perhaps the 'other' screw needs a similiar adjustment??

regards Andy
