Hello every one I Just bought my third G and its a 91 300 gel its in a bit of a state, it was used by a farmer and it had had some hard time when I bought it had no rear seats, since buying it I have fitted it with another set of interior and still looking for a pair of jump seat, I also have changed the brake flaxy, but my main target is the engine and box although the gearbox is fine but the engine has a piston slap so I have bought a donor W210 E320 cdi and have started removing the engine in the G first, I know the w210 electrics are very complex with CAN bus and ESP so before I striped any thing I done some test with the ABS sensors on the G, and according to my calculation it will all work great and even found a way to switch the ABS off with out having a gear change problem.
The hart of all the head scratching is the ABS system, you see the modern Mercedes all use the ABS signal to determine the gear box output speed so the gear box ECU can determine the gear change.

So I have a lot on my plate wish me luck

Re: engine convertion

Is the W210 the I6 cdi? I remember reading that that engine would not fit in the g, it is longer than the older 6s and fouled on the rad. Thus Graz only ever installed the 270cdi. Let us know how it progresses

Re: engine convertion

the W210 engine does not fit the RHD 463..best engine is the early 2.9 sprinter or musso engine....other related problems are the usual petrol to diesel!!! like fuel management. heaters. exhaust interface.....better to fit the OM 603 with the Garratt turbo and save yourself some of the grief........

Re: engine convertion

What symptoms do you have for "piston slap" that engine is is not prone to that particular problem...now the tappets can be a cause of strange noises...would service the head before going into heart transplant surgery!!!!
