I am toying with selling my G-wagen as I'm not really using it much and the amount of offroad ( field) work I do seems to get less & less each year.

What's the market like at the moment? Are 463's selling well ?

Dilema I have is the G doesn't really cost me that much to own/ run as only doing 3000 miles a year fuel economy has little impact, + the family love it... so why sell it? :?

maybe its summer time blues, once winter arrives I'll be using it again & glad I've not sold her

the best guide is the completed section of Ebay.... put Mercedes G wagen in the search window.click onto "completed items" in the left hand column..then below the window "View now" you get the last two weeks final bids ..but not proof that the transaction was concluded ..this is revealed when the same item appears for sale a week or so later....sometimes with negative comments about the previous final bidder..prices in Auto Trader are asking prices not final sale prices...on average 463 prices are back by 15/20% from a year ago..1991 463 SWB petrol auto sold for as little as GBP 5.500.....a few weeks ago ...similar now being offered at GBP 5000.......not a sellers market......

Using Ebay for years....never knew you could do that!! Nice one, Peter!!

Classic example:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mercedes-g-wagon-g-wagen_W0QQitemZ160267290915QQcm...

Now on again:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mercedes-g-wagon-g-wagen-g-class_W0QQitemZ16026997...

Buyer had good feedback....wonder what the story was? No mention of a relist?

Top tip!!

Well mine would be at the cheaper end of the 463 prices I suspect anyway.

I do have the opportunity to buy a series1 landrover, but it would mean the G would have to go :(

I imagine in reality I'll keep the G. No matter how much I love series1 LR's I think I have to be realistic to their practicallity.

Re: whats the market like at the moment?

;)

I do have soft spot for early Landies. The 1st car I ever drove was on my friends farm..... his Dad was away for the day so we borrowed his series 2 for a bit of fun around the farm :) Left it in 2 wheel drive & had huge fun powersliding around the grazing fields ... lasted a couple of hours until the thing cooked itself

Anyway, its the back to basics motoring ....... I was heavilly into aircooled VW's ( split campers, beetles etc ) & they too share 'qualities' with old landrovers ;)

Don't panic yet, I'm not about to jump into a series1 LR. If anything I'd like to head down the Caterham route, but I don't quite have the funds yet.

I think the G will be staying with me for a while yet :)

I saw a Caterham when we were on the Yorkshire trip.... it was in three pieces spread across the road. No other vehicle involved.

Not the building quality, I tell ya!

We over here say that there are two happy days in the life of a Land Rover owner: the day you buy it ..... and the day you get rid of it!

Go on, indulge yourself... but don't say you haven't been warned!

Does that include the Santana's? Jesus
Now built and sold as "Mastiff's" by Iveco

Santanas were reknowned in the good old days for having a better build quality than LR, but I guess anything could boast the same
