Hi all,

Mr Smart has convinced me I have a sub-standard G as my bumpers are not colour coded to Obsidian Black  . See Pic attached. I now feel the urge to have this done after the new alloy payment hits my overly stretched amex.

It seems to me (and I may be wrong) that the middle secions of the front and rear might need more than just a respray as they look pretty baked on...does anyone have expereince/tips for this? I guess the caps on the side are pretty straight forward respray? Any reccos on a good place to get this done London area?

Thanks!

Ferdi

Normal respray will work fine on top of the existing finish, which on the metal bumper is a power-coat. However, make sure to use a plastic primer (primer suitable for plastic parts) for the end-caps etc, or else the paint will peel-off before long. The rear-bumper is a kind of glass-fibre composite and that too can be painted in the normal way, but don't paint over the step area, if you have the gritted-surface finish on this.

and when you do the mirrors get the bases treated properly as the factory finish tends to bubble after awhile....

also make sure they paint the license plate mount but not the headlight surrounds.

Mr Smart...I just looked at my mirrors and am pretty sure they are already colour coded...are you sure they aren't?

and when you say the headlight surrounds...I assume you mean the square fog lights on the bumper?..if so, why wouldn't those get painted too?

you're right - they probably are painted.

yes sorry typo -meant the square fog light surrounds. if you want it to look original, then MB never painted them on the square fogs.

they do on the new ones - but they also have more surrounds showing due to the oval lights. i think amg might of done it on the square ones....

So now my car resembles an AMG? It being a 300gd (0-60 in 3 weeks) I find that kinda funny :-)

Looks nice... a narrow axle G -without the customary flared wheelarches- and yet colour-coded bumpers.

Ver nice indeed

Never mind about the three weeks time. It is gorgeus!
