Gents

Two of us here in SA with 290GTD's experience the same intermittent problem: (My engine is new (with a new injector pump and injectors) wiht only 30 K km's on while Johanns have more than 200K km's.

From time to time the engine will be very sluggish to gain power from pull-away. You have to press the accelarator flat and then it slowly picks up speed. Once on speed the power is OK. the last time it happened to me it lasted for a few 100km's and then the next day it improved back to normal again! No error messages have shown up on the EDC.

What could be the cause of this? Is it possible that a stuck EGR valve can cuase this at low rev's?

Any wisdom or experience in this regard will be appreciated

Regards

Freek

any smoke ..rough running...old diesel or contaminated diesel will affect performance....could be turbo lag for some reason...

The air mass sensor are a usuall weak point. This fault or failure does not read on the diagnostics. Worth testing before replacing, their not cheap.

Gents

Thanks for the responses.
Fixwin, No rough running but i have not checked for smoke - i will have to wait for the next occurrence to check..

Rakesh, where would this air mass sensor be on this engine? Would it be the little sensor that picks up boost pressure from the inlet manifold? How is it tested?

Thanks again and regards

Hi Freek,

The air mass sensor is usually some where along the inlet tract, follow all tubing from the air filter housing and locate a small sensor with either two or three leads into it. The sensors function is to measure the mass of air entering the engine, rather than check the tubo boost, which is a different function. We may be talking of the same sensor.

It is tested by an osilliscope. I do not have the exact testing procedure to it or the readings you should get for the 290. I will however try to get more info. on this and get back to you.
