How do you put the (electronic) transfer-case in neutral ?
Just wondering whether it is possible to select neutral with the electronically-actuated transfer-cases? The H-L button has 2 click positions, but the (German) manual seems to label the mid (rest) position, 3, as neutral. I can't get this to work though.
The COMAND display has a warning, however, when it thinks that the TC might be in neutral, so I guess it might be possible to select this position some how.
Does anyone know how?

Since you are talking about buttons and command, I am presuming you have a 2002+
In which case I don't know, but on a 2000 you need to put the transmission in neutral before you can shift the transfer case. It could be the same on yours?
no neutral on this type of tansfer case, neutral was only made so you could use a pro on the 460 and early 463 although a pto never went into production for the early 463, these days they don't feel the need fir ptos so hence no neutral position

I guess you're right guys. Only the thing that got me wondering is that at one point there was a red warning on the dash info display that the TC was in Neutral and there was no L or H symbol showing on the gear-display box. (ie make sure hand-brake is applied before leaving vehicle etc). ...and the owner's manual mentions Neutral, with switch-position-3, although as I can't really read German....
My understanding is that the reason you see the option on the dash is for cases when the transmission has been unable to complete the shift into the other gear and thus stops midway in neutral.
It's the 2001, G400.
The TC will shift between H and L when the main transmission is in Neutral and travelling less than 40km/h.
However, I was wondering whether there is a way to put the TC in neutral?
The button has a centre rest position and clicks down for L and up for H. Nothing is marked with N, but there may be a trick to get it in to N?
My old G300 has the mechanical gear-lever with a neutral position and apart from the electrical actuator I think the TCs are the same in both.
