Help and advise please.

I have a manual 230GES owned for the last 5 years.

Recently the fuel pump has beome noisey - a constant buzz. It allways buzzed for a mment on start up but then fell silent. However the car starts first time every time and runs as well as it ever has. A new fuel filter has been fitted in the last 10000 miles, the accumulater is untouched.

I am off to Landrover Experance centre in Devon next month (got an invite to drive my G on their "test track") and do not want to be rescued by a Discovery 3. or the AA!

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Noisey fuel pump

could be ...on its way out..loose in the mount...overworked due to a restriction in the plumbing...remove it and run it on the bench is the answer.if no noise on the bench look at the plumbing and for silt like particles from the bottom of the fuel tank clogging the filter.the pump will groan/cavitate if it has to push against a restriction.....

She is on her way out, say 'tati-bye' to it and replace pump. Euro car parts should be able to supply a new.

Had the same thing happen to me in a 280E. The fuel pump finally died when I was in the fast lane on the M11. If you give it a light tap it can sometimes get it pumping for another few minutes. Buy a new one to save the embarasment.

Many thanks for all those who have given their valuable advise.

Purchased a new fuel pump today (Eurocar parts £100 inc VAT) will get it fitted this week.

The thought of my wife breaking down with the horse in the trailer on a busy road was to much to contimplate!

I should stay away from those landrover experiance places - I just drove past one and dropped a valve  - very embarrasing and expensive - best kept clear- they're jinxed
