Yes. But I can't work out what it is from the picture. There must be a hose within reach with a hole for it.

the hose to the air control valve (grey or white with single slot about thesize of a five pence piece) can be seen at 10 oclock when you look down at the distributor...ithas a fitment for a small hose half way along its length...hard to get to but part of the cold start system.have you done a compression check for the leaking valve? this hose disconnected would give you rough running and no adjustment on the air control valve.......

So would this result in no air being combined with petrol resulting in running too rich?

Just at the start, having been misfiring so changed the leads and plugs. Seems to be using way too much petrol than before?

Re: Should this be attached??

Hi the high failure item in the cold starting function is the "cold start regulator valve which is located under the rear of the inlet manifold held on to the block with two 5mm allan key headed bolts "very hard to get at and best from underneath...two steel pipes with different sized fittings a vac pipe 'rubber' and an electrical connector..the electrics are linked to the fuel pump relay and a sender on the cylinder head above the exhaust manifold...check the electric circuit first and if okay remove the valve"which can be opened to check the interior workings.. if this is the problem then you get a lumpy slow idle when cold with black smoke which goes away when the engine gets warm (2/3minutes0 in the summer..the correct idle speed is 11/1200rpm dropping to 650/700rpm when warm. log into Bosch CIS fuel injection system on the internet for better detail of the cold start and mixture setup.......
