Re: Ignition barrel!

i thought you said you had put a new barrel in?
The interior will never be the same by the time they take an angle grinder to the barrel.

Re: Ignition barrel!

£500

This guy will fix it for around 30 quid and you get mint tea while you wait :D

Shame he's 2000 miles away

Seriously what are the symptoms?

If it's a mechanical problem with the key I guess it will be a new barrel.
If it's an electrical problem someone who knows what they are doing can change the electrical connections without messing with the actual barrel.

Re: Ignition barrel!

russ, where is that photo from? it looks like morroco or even a remote village in the cyprus peninsula

i dropped off the G last night with the missus[well she almost took down our brick wall too , the rear bumper needs a respray too :x ]

the barrel is worn out, which means a bill not less than £350. i asked MB who are asking £70 an hour plus vat.that equates to £500+ :!:

i was on the phone with my brother and he was telling me that they carryout the same job on w123's for about £80

Re: Ignition barrel!

You drove the G to the garage? the barrel can't be broken in the locked position or it would have needed a recovery.
Shouldn't be £350 if the barrel still turns.

Re: Ignition barrel!

It is probably a fault with the airbag system - so what Tom mentions makes sense.

Re: Ignition barrel!

If the steering has been disturbed (removed) without first disconnecting the battery, the SRS light will come on and require a reset. Sometimes also happens if you try to start the car with a low battery and the voltage surges.

I have the same problem on my G300 at the moment and need to find where the SRS pins are on the diagnostic socket.

Re: Ignition barrel!

If he is removing the steering wheel then cut the wood trim in half at the screw behind the column. It will make it easier to service the centre console in the future.
