Ninth picture in the first message:

http://maquette-garden.forumactif.com/expos-et-manifestations-en-tous-ge...

Identified as "G290 (UK)"

Obviously looks like GWagen based but, does anybody know who makes it?

Nice Panhard and "modern" P4 too!

Those rims ring a bell, don't they?

Not sure about the third one but I am fairly sure that the first two are Panhards. I'm sure Quercus will know.

Re: What on earth is this?

Ahh well if you look at the link you posted it says what they are.... a G290 (UK), a Panhard VPS and a P4.

But a G290 UK??? What is that? Wonder if that is the G that the MOD is testing.... perhaps Spider knows....

interesting how a few of those vehicles have Renault badges... could you imagine if all the military vehicles that came into the UK had to have LR badges even if they were a G!

Re: What on earth is this?

Hmmm found this on their website:

Quote:
The contract for the SAS Patrol vehicle was awarded to Panhard by the DGA in 2005 for the Special Operations Command. Based on a Mercedes G chassis, the vehicle has great range and a twin electric circuit which enables it to be used in difficult climatic conditions. In addition, it can be rapidly deployed to theatre as it is equipped with tie-down rings. The crew is protected against anti-personnel mines thanks to an armoured floor fitted under the hull. 51 VPS have been ordered by the Ministry of Defence.

Do you think they mean UK SAS?

No, the contract is for the French military:

The first one is Norwegian 290GD built by Arctic Trucks.

Re: What on earth is this?

So how are Artic Trucks getting 37" rims in .. i.e gearing? (I know you can cut and trim the body)

I guess they could be redoing the diff's but it would be so much nicer if you just redid the transfer box ratios.. so much easier..

I saw Clarkson's Artic Truck Toyota the other day at a show (he went to Magetic North Pole) .. it was remarkably standard; special Artic truck 38" tyres which had to have serious balancing weights  , long springs/shocks/brake hoses/links, wheel arches and that was about it!
