Anyone had their fuel cap flap stuck I went to fill my 463 up the other day and the locking pin was down! I looked in the drivers book and it said take the back panel off and pull the strap but this didn't work it was seized solid. I prized the flap open and filled up. For the moment I have sprayed it with WD40 and hope it will free up, any suggestions?

Yes,

They need to be kept well oiled. Say, twice a year. In your case, oil the key way and work the key till free. You, may need to soak in penetrating oil, to free up initially, but after that, let drain out or blow out penetrating oil and re-oil with light oil.

Smear the rubber seal with vasaline gel, it will keep the cap easy to operate.

I think he is talking about the flap, not the cap.

Happened to me, the part that pulls the pin up was knackered. New bit from MB and a big bill!

Just get the bit and do it yourself.

Thank's Dan
Can I get to the part if I remove the side panel with the seatbelt reel on and is it a vacuum unit or a solenoid?

Electric on the 463s. The seatbelt reel needs to be removed, no major drama either. You need to ease the rubber trim from around the window with a screwdriver blade or similar to release that area. Fairly straightforward.

On mine they replaced the whole thing. I think it can sometimes only be the vacum unit though, what I was told at the time. As to getting it off, I can't help as I didn't do it.
