Imported G 270 CDI from Germany. Insurance help needed!
Hey guys,
Newbie to the g wagen family , old though to off roading been a couple of time with old mates. They all have the fever with jeeps riding range rovers, wranglers and shogun pajero, so i just die to see their face when they will be looking to the new army guy in town.!!!
So
I am actively looking to buy a G 270 CDI lhd most propably in the next month and i will import it from germany. Problem is most of the insurance companies when i quote online they dont seem to have the model...not sure though why but i can only find the 290td and then the 400/500 or the 300td.
Anyone had the same experience and maybe can share a bit of info on the case??
Cheers!
Send a PM to fredecosse as he used to own one so should know.
Also try Adrian Flux 4x4 insurance.
But interesting that the 300TD is on there as that was never officially imported either.
.........Problem is most of the insurance companies when i quote online they dont seem to have the model...
Cheers!
most on-line UK insurance companies will only list the standard UK models. However, some will be able to quote over the phone after talking to their underwriters.
Adrian Flux is the one ...you should get a wee discount as member as well ...Fred

I'm surprised at how many are recommending Adrian Flux. I've known the company for over 10 years and every time I try them for a quotation, they are always the most expensive and unhelpful. Two years ago, they quoted over £1,400 for a G400.
I am with you 100% there Arnie
F---king unhelpful, I do remember, though not even sure if they cover NI?
It's been a while mind.
Marcus
Also with Adrian Flux, and have been for many years. cost £190.00 :D
The first few times I tried Adrian Flux they were expensive and unhelpful. But this time I am with them as their price was very competitive for what I wanted.
In addition they are the only company I found to offer off-road coverage and if I recall correctly North Africa.
Yes I am moaning that everyone else in London is paying about half of what I am but even when I call their insurance companies I can't bring my insurance down by more than 10% and I haven't even asked about off-road coverage with them.
So , like, if every penny counts
Why are you purchasing a "G"?
just a thought
Marcus
PS
Be glad you have "no points" in the UK.
12 points (nominally 3 per offence) = NO licence
I gather you mean no "no claims bonus" for insurance purposes
cheers
M
.... 0 points in uk ......
Some companies will give an "introductory" no-claims discount equivalent to 2 or 3 years (30-40%) and others (eg Privilege) will accept your existing EU no-claims discount.
You should be able to insure it on an EU licence - I managed on a Canadian licence for a long time.... and they still gave me 4 years NCD as well.
Where in Africa are you going?
Arnie,
I have German import 500, I am with Norwich union for two years now they had the best quote for imports. Adrian Flux failed to find my car on their databse and quoted over 2000 both times.
Also note that as its my second car I had 0 NCD for the first year and full for the 2nd year but premium stayed the same at just over 400. Which includes that lot i.e. any car, 2nd driver, EU insurance and breakdown etc
Good luck.
If you don't find what you are looking for then drop a line I might sell you my 500 its 1999 with 45K miles.
I love it to bits but business needs little cash injection so all sources are explored to raise cash.

Althoug mine is not and import, there seems to be an issue with the 500's. I would have to agree with some of the other posters here, Adrian Flux was not that helpfu, however the NFU came in at the best. YOu could try MB insurance, but this year they wanted to charge me £1,500!
Good luck!
