Hi, I run a 1988 lwb 300 gd with a 460 engine. I dip in and out of the forum and find it very informative, however can anybody please comment on the definitve regarding running my g on veg oil. I don't want to do any mods to her, just run her with no engine or pump damage for less than £1.30 a litre. if anyone out there is doing this without any problems I would be very gratefull for a respose including brands, oil types, availability and ratio of mix. The subject to me seems to me to have become complicated and clouded and was just wondering if there is any common ground or opinions. Many thanks.

Re: alternative fuels.

Yes the information is there
However I suspect the best advice is "suck it and see"
Basically my understanding is that one can run straight vegetable oil all year IN THE SOUTH, bit chancyier furthur north, so cut it with DERV ??
All depends on ones usuage, whether the car is garaged at night how long parked up during the day, etc etc
How long is a piece of string anyway??

Re: alternative fuels.

It is legal up to 2500 litres per year. Yes any oil will work but rape gives the best performance in my experience - also stays liquid to about -15.

You may need to change your seals but I think your year might be ok (search for this on forum).

I would start at 20/80 veg/diesel and work your way up to about 80/20. Though in summer you should be able to run 100/0 though I have never done so myself.

Re: alternative fuels.

fuel line seals. but you are probably ok... i never had to deal with it so can't really help you here. make sure you have an oem (bosch) pump

rapeseed is going for about £1/litre at the moment so not much cheaper. you could try your local catering supplier.

or setup a filtration system and get it used from restaurants.

do search - not just here but on the web as well - as it is a subject which has been discussed fairly extensively.
