Sorry to be a pain but I am going to have alot of questions about the G - but one of the less technical questions is...

The front skidplate on the 280GE i would like to replace it with a 460/500 skidplate...

Would it be the same fit!a case oof unbolting the old and bolting the new? or are the bolt sizes different etc etc etc ?

Thanks in advance :)

Why would you want a skid plate for a PT cruiser, it might bring the front end down a bit  just kidding!
Perhaps you mean 463/500. A 280GE is almost certainly a 460 model.

The 280 has a shorter front end skid plate than say the G500/463/G55 etc..

basically I would like my 85 G to look as near as poss to a G500/463 etc

:)

Re: Another Question..Skid plate...

well welcome to the club!

in my limited observation i don't recall much of a difference between skid plates for early and late G's, but i know it changed at least once for 463s (early vs. late) so a G500 (2002) would have one with slightly different openings to a 300GE (1991).

if you're trying to get it to look like a 463 there are other areas in need of more attention, as i doubt anyone would look under your front bumper to see what kind of skid plate you have! prime examples are mirrors, grille/light surrounds, rear lights and running boards and fender extensions.

that's if we're talking about the same bit, seen here in the photo with 2 eyelets sticking out, underneath the bumper:

Re: Another Question..Skid plate...

gas cap position... rain gutters... wheel width.... arches....

for the price of 463s now a days you are better to just buy one. plus then you get fulltime 4x4 and a nicer interior... and much smoother and quieter ride.

Re: Another Question..Skid plate...

tase, I am sorry to say that the skid plate or under guard will not fit.

Simply because the chassis width of the 460 and 463 are different, hence, the holes in which the bolts go through will not line up. Unless, you want to get involed in some farication and modification of the under gaurd, that is.

Thanks m2dxb

I would like a 463/g500 version as i want to purchase the chrome skidplate attachments to fit over the plate - As i will be fitting a hydraulic suspsension to control vehicle height.

This is a project car with the aim of becoming my main car and since i cant really afford another car having another 2 a chrysler and mazda i cant afford to buy one outright...i am however selling the chrysler ..should fetch 3.5k so thatll go straight onto the G..

But I know im gonna enjoy building it up.

Yes maxwell i got a link for the g500 kit coming in at about 750 sterling - not bad imo - i may just search German/US ebay for OEM parts - the should be a straight change/swap over...right! Allthough i do prefer the gas cap in its position of the 280/etc ill just add a merc chrome/silver cap - looks nice imo again but then you can tell its not a G500/G55 just by looking at the exterior - the interior i will sort out last - its all about the shell first :) 4me!

With time and the right mods the ride can become just as smooth so thats not really a problem especially as i wont be "mountain climbing" with it lol

Pistonhead, thats a read shame ... as long as it can be modified it will happen.

Thanks Guys

Ill keep you all posted to the progress

Re: Another Question..Skid plate...

i would strongly suggest you price up ALL the parts you will need to convert your 460 to look like a 463 starting with the grill, headlight surrounds, bumpers and mirrors.

i am pretty sure you could buy a 463 for less than you will spend on fixing up your 460 and without the headache.

but if you go ahead with it then best of luck.
