Hi All,

Just thought it was worth sharing that I got £350 a year with £150 voluntary excess from them.. 7 years no claims, protected.

I am central London based, it lives on the street and I am below 35...I thought it very good considering..I had quotes up to 1.3k so was very pleased..

Hope it helps...

A-plan are the other insurance company carving themself a market at the moment.. cheap for 3-4 years until they have to start making money.. and of course don't expect claims to be smooth ;-)

Just checked elephant. Funny thing is that their quotation is £20 cheaper if kept on a driveway rather than a garage overnight.

Does Elephant include off-road coverage? Also are you including European or just UK coverage in that?

Seems that if you have an original UK model then insurance can be quite reasonable. (I pay about £220 on a '96 G300E 463 for London Area with Esure). However, if you have an import or a model that doesn't show up on the UK insurance data-bases (eg SWB G400 CDi), then it can cost 4 or 5 times as much.

Try Privilege. I pay about 500 for a 01 G500.

Interesting is that a G500 5 door or 3?...Just out of interest what excess do you have to cough up, do you get extra car, and most importantly is it covered for taking it off road?

Cheers

Re: Great Insurance Quote - Elephant.co.uk

I'm currently paying circa £900 for fully comp, 5 yrs NCD, roadside assistance and full coverage for Europe including off-road. I think my deductable is £400 but can't really remember.

But I am also limited to 7500 miles per annum. Although my insurance is for both business and personal use which boosts it and I also haven't had a UK licence for that long. Strange that they will give me a NCD for longer than I have held a UK licence!!!

I also supposedly live in one of the boroughs with the highest car theft rates in London (Islington). But it is kept in a gated compound with CCTV and does have an alarm.

I once spoke to someone with a G400 who was paying £350 per annum. Lived down on the coast. So location makes a huge difference.

Also a member who lives in London and also has a place in the country said it was something like half the cost to insure his G at his country address.

Tried Privilege. They did not have the G400 listed, but they were good enough to call their underwriters and agreed to rate it the same as a G320, as the nearest model to it. Cost: £408 for my dad + £40 for additional driver (me!). Much better quote than NU at £700+.

However, it won't be covered for theft until I can show that it has the approved security device fitted: Mercedes MB SS3.

Re: Great Insurance Quote - Elephant.co.uk

Can all you guys in London tell me what postcodes you're in?

I've been told that mine is one of the most expensive but considering I've got secure off street parking I am paying significantly more than everyone else in London for roughly equal value vehicles.

Even calling some of the other insurers doesn't really save me much if I want the same level of coverage.

I'm wondering what else could be boosting my rates by so much...

The only thing is Mark in the same area pays roughly the same as me.

SW20.

If your G-wagen is a UK model (G300TD might qualify as same), then Esure are definitely the cheapest at about £200 for a '96 G300E

Otherwise, try calling Darren at Privilege (ext 2881). He seemed quite helpful.

However, if you have requirements for additional cover for off-road use etc, that might add to the premium.

Re: Great Insurance Quote - Elephant.co.uk

Well I tried elephant, however they can’t insure me as they don’t have my car listed! All other G’s are, but not the 500’s – They then passed me on to their call connect call centre who put me onto;

Swinton: No Quote available – classed as specialized vehicle
Adrian Flux: £868.99 (Service)
Taylor Price/direct choice: £1,200

All quotes; Full comp, Me, Mrs. and my Dad as driver, temp car if crunched, off road cover, windscreen, stereo, £250 excess and NCB Protection.

Best deal so far NFU £800.72

Re: Great Insurance Quote - Elephant.co.uk

latest info as goes.....

my clk55 cab is insured last month by adrian flux for £820, not too bad.

got a call from elephant for a quote on 2 cars in the same family so they have qouted me £520 for my clk55 cab

and £205 for my G300, all details being the same, ie excess etc...

there sister company is admiral. you guys might want to insure 2[ where possible]cars in the same family for a better deal maybe

even though adrian flux are charging me £300 fees :x i am still better off.

what a result :P

What do insurance co's mean when they say "off road cover"?

Sounds far too much a blanket statement to mean anything

I was told any off-road use including greenlanes, play sites etc but barring competitions.

With the NFU - what they mean is covered is any off roading so long as it is not Speed testing, racing or time trials and 'extreame off roading' by that they mean north face of Snowdon, intentional rock sliding etc etc.
