Hi, everyone. I am new to this forum.

I am a pround G owner-280GE Breg. When I bought the G wagen, I was been told it will require a new headgasket as it lose power & water and a lot of white steam come out from the exhaust, after taking the head off, I noticed the gap between piston 3 has a corner chipped away. And the gap between piston and cylinder wall seems bigger than the other cylinders. I know I should have done a compression test before I taken the head off, but it is too late now. Here is the question, I have owned two W123 saloon(280 and 230), I am looking for another replacement engine. Will the same M110 straight 6 280 in the saloon do a straight swap(engine mount etc)?

p.s. I will try to post some pictures.

Thanks in advance.

Re: HELP!!! 280GE engine replacement

the engines are different, physically in the the mounts are different g to car and the sump is different.
g is in a lower tune, ie less power different torque curve but puts up with crappier fuel!!!
i may have a reasonable secondhand engine available out of a g i am breaking in the near future.i need to check it and see what sort of condition it is in first though, would this be of interest?
regards mark
ps im in sidcup near se london, where are you coz that would make a difference!!!!!

Hi, thx for your reply. I am in west midlands. If you can let me hear the engine running before you take it out, that would be a bonus. Many thanks

Re: HELP!!! 280GE engine replacement

ive doen a 280ce to g wagen swap and it was a pain - sump/oil filter/mounts/all ancilliary mountings/linkages etc etc etc.

that said, it was a good engine and she certainly feels nippier than the other 280gel i had, in fact no comparison.....
