om 617 car engine into g wagen
Good evening everyone the old girl has given up after over 500.000 mile the head gasket has gone on the way home. Ive had another engine from a car for a while now with less than sixty thou on it my question is is the crankshaft the same on the auto engine as the manual in my g I appreciate that ill have to swap all the ancillaries and the crankshaft weight with the flywheel. ps don't suppose its got more power cumming from a car.Many thanks Andy
I think what you should be asking is the sump the same?
The sump and oil pump pick up will probably need attention due to the fact the front axle of your 'G' is directly under the sump, which needs to be shallower. Otherwise, change of flywheel, and all ancilliers should do the job, this to include the engine braket mounts.
The back plate may need changing depending which side of engine, the starter motor is fitted to the donner engine as compared to the 'G' eninge.
ive got a spare 617 diesel sump for a g, if you want it it wont be expensive!!!!
I guess you can install the engine from the saloon with the oil sump and pump from your current OM617 G-Wagen version engine, can you not?
i thought that the g and car version had the same oil pump, its the 617a turbo that has a different oil pump.

cheers for all the advise fellas and the help I've been away on work for a couple of days, topped the coolant up drove it around the block 6 miles and it beggar's belief that it seems OK so I'm going to ready the car engine in anticipation what an engine the om 617 is. Markvulture let me know how much for the sump . bye the way this engine has had a turbo bolted to to it with no pipe to control the boost pressure I tested it when I first got it and she was pushing 16 psi needless to say this will be connected on the engine Many thanks
