Great photos! More impressive when you know the circumstances...but I'm curious about the distributor failure, first time I hear that happen on an M103, any idea what mileage his distributor had done?

Great pictures, please keep it up, always a joy to see your adventures.

RE/: Rotar shoe failure, although not very common does occurr occassionally. I have experienced them in my working life with G-Wagens. They do tend to happen between 65,000 to 95,000 miles intervals. I would suggest this to be kept as spare in the vehicle, they are inexpensive.

Thanks for the experienced input Rakesh! I am weighing whether or not preventive replacement of the rotor and points is in order (114,000mi). At least he got a little warning, but I guess that's not always the case.

Quiet at work lately..?

Regards,

Curiously Freyer's G has some proven 80,000 miles and yet the distributor cap had the manufacture year as 1995, being a 1991 G. This means that the part had already been replaced after 1995 and it was toast (due to condensation, the contacts iside the cap had blue rust).

You bet! I am most impressed with the towing abilities of my G: in very wet conditions up- and down hill and off-road. Quite a feat!
