Tyres for 1993 GES
Hi All What advice can the forum give me on recommende tyres for the above?
The current tyre we have on are Dunlop Grandtrek 255/75R15 100S ! on Alloys.
We will spend 80%+ on road but require off road caperbilities!
TIA
Lascelles
I have a set of Michilen synchrones on mine, they are fine

I have a set of those in my ML320. They seem to be almost perfect for the road but I doubt that they would be any good off-road
Hi Lascelles
that a beautiful G in your avatar
it looks familar lol
Hi All,
Yeah, I would like to second that advise given. If you have access to the readies go for the Michelin Synchrone (not Latitude) or BFG Long Trail for slightly better off tarmac performance.
Have Synchrone on my own 4x4 and I'm in the business, maybe thats as good a recommendation as you'll get as my kids are always in it.

Mike
PS Also consider 265/70x15 or 31/10.50x15 both these sizes are the same and will fit your vehicle when fitted in a complete set(4)and may offer better value when pricing around.
Tyreman I'm curious, why not latitude?
Lascelles I run General Grabber UHP's (but on 7.5x16 wheels like the ones hus55 is selling) in 255 also, and they're great on tarmac. A friend who has them on his disco says they're good offroad too, only for going forward (directional tread pattern).
I had syncrones on the old wheels (6x16) in 205 and the handling was abysmal, but it's most likely the width of the tyres, not the tread!
The initial question was based on mostly road and some trail suitability.
The latitude while better than the synchrone on road would be abysmal off the road where as the synchrone would hold its own up to a point.
I believe in "horses for courses" and like the latitude the road bias general would quickly fill with crud off the road, directional or not and not give the bite required.
I also use general grabber AT2 on another vehicle and would also recommend them.

Mike
Thanks for the explanation! My local "tyreman" also has Grabber ATs on his 4x4...I see a pattern :D
I have still got the same set of Michelin Syncrones on my 15 inch wheels after 20,000 + miles with loads of life left in them (and they were part worn when I got the car), If the car is tracking straight they just last and last, not the best off road but great value for money and good on the tarmac.
hi lascelles, do yourself a favour and buy my alloys mate
they are shod with general grabbers which are i guess 70%onroad 30% offroad biased.
they would be a great upgrade for your G and cost you not much more than a set of tires with a late 463 cometic look
by the way mike's measurements are spot on, mine have 265.70.16's.
this is what it would look like with those wheels..they give it a post-94 look ;p honest i'm not getting commission on the deal, if i was here for good i'd get them and mount winter tyres on!
Happy Days, have fun.
Regards,
Mike
Thanks for comments, I have gone for general grabber AT2 31/10.50x15 and I am impressed with the tyres
