Interior Lights Not Working When Rear Cargo Door Opened
Hey G buddies,
I have a 2003 G 500
when i open the back cargo door, the interior lights NEVER turn on.
i can turn them on if the key is in the ignition and i press the rear cargo light button from the drivers console
but they never turn on if i simply open the back cargo door manualy
i took it into Mercedes
and they told me that the cargo area lights aren't meant to turn on when the door is opened
they are only made to turn on when the key is in the ignition and the button is pushed
but i really find that hard to believe
anyone know the answer?
thanks so much :?:
G55.
The lights come on. Has to be the switch.
door pillar switches can corrode and give problems....normally located on the hinge side of the door frame.....this may be the cause... do the rear bay lights have a manual on/off switch located in the bay area? if so check that it works correctly...have the lights ever worked when opening the rear door?....

Yeah.... Mercedes' guys are the of the kind when asked to count their own testicles twice, they get to differing results every time....
What a load of plonkers, Rodney
The switch on a 2000 model had the function to switch off manually, by pulling the pin that's on the side outside a bit (it clicks), this will turn off the interior lights if you anticipate keeping the door open for a long time.
However I am not sure if the switch changed in 2003; other people have had a problem with the light switch, but on a rear passenger door rather than the "cargo" door:
