Hi Guys,

Brand new to the forum (which is great btw!) and about to make a trip to germany this week to pick up a high spec year 2000, 300 td 5 door in black with 18inch rims.

Couple questions that would really help!

Where do I buy / how do I fit the:

1) Chrome strips/inlays that run down the rubber side slats?
2)Chrome strips for the grill
3) New 2008 wing mirrors with indicators

Any thoughts on the above would be super helpful and I promise to post pics in return :D

All the best,

Ferdi

Good choice in Gs - arguably the best diesel engine put into the G as long as you don't go fording water....

You can get all those parts from your local MB dealer.... depending on where you are I recommend either Stratford or Park Royal.

However the chrome grill strips you could equally get at a London Graphic or Halfords for about a 1/10th of the price of the official MB ones. It is just chrome tape.

The chrome inlays for the side you could get made up out of aluminium stripping.

London seems to have the bulk of G300 TDs in the UK and yours will make 3 out of the 5 known UK 2000 G300 TDs to be in London. There are three earlier ones as well for a total of 8 in the UK.

So let me guess you live in North London?

Brilliant. Thanks V much...not quite North london but Notting Hill...so not far off the mark
In terms of having these fitted...is Gwagen.co.uk recommend / value for money?

G300 (pre March 2001) only becomes interesting bec. of Ken's draconian congestion £25 charges as of Oct.....300TD (as t has only a 2.998cc) is acceptable under the new laws...

Otherwise I would be in a G55

GET KEN OUT!!!

I'd check that out first, if you really want a G55.
I think like DVLA, they will take the date it's registered in the UK. Not 100% on that though.

Re: Pimping my G? : Newbie Question

Yes,, it when registered with DVLA.

"The introduction of a higher charge (£25) for cars and certain pickups with two rows of seats that produce high levels of CO2.Vehicles liable for this charge are:
Cars first registered with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) on or after 1 March 2001 that produce above 225g/km of CO2
Cars first registered with the DVLA before 1 March 2001 with engines greater than 3,000cc
Pickups with two rows of seats (extended-cab dual-purpose pickups) with CO2 emissions of greater than 225g/km or with engines greater than 3,000cc in size"

Re: Pimping my G? : Newbie Question

My god...thanks...that could have been one expensive mistake...I need to get to the bottom of this fast! THANK YOU.

I thought that cars prior to march 2001 didn't have emissions figures so couldn't be charged the £25.

Does anyone on this forum have an imported G wagen , 3 litres or less, Pre March 2001? If so, does your V5 show any emmissions or cc on it ?

Re: Pimping my G? : Newbie Question

Just got off the phone with CC London..and whilst they never inspire em with their detailed knowledge they did quote this..

" It all has to do with the log book ie if it states 2,998 in the log book and pre-March 2001 as date of manufacture, then that is what we charge from.
So in this case the car would be £8."

More info is out in June apparently...

It would alleviate a huge amount of mounting stress to speak to someone with a logbook from a 300td pre 2001 ! Any one out there!!

Thanks again all..

I just checked my log book (i just had a brand new one sent to me) and it says 2996CC and has no data for CO2 emissions.

Re: Pimping my G? : Newbie Question

Of course if Ken loses the election - which is not at all unlikely...it will be history

or if Porsche win their judicial review - which I also think not at all unlikely - after all there is no effect on the health of Londoners from CO2 being emitted in the metropolis (at least it would be not amongst the top hundred factors affecting health) - within wide bounds the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere is simply not relevant - and there is clearly no effect on congestion of the £25 charge - it is purely a combination of spite and greed. The courts may well strike it down if it comes to court...

Cheers Mike

CHEERS MR SAV..MUCH APPREICATED...

INTERESTINGLY ...JST DID A DVLA PLATE CHECK FROM A G300 TD (NOV 2001) I HAVE SEEN FOR SALE AND IT CONFIRMS...

IT'S BELOW 3000cc (SO NO RISK OF THEM ROUNDING UP ON ANY PAPERWORK) AND THE DATE OF FIRST REGISTRATION IS REFFERED TO AS WHEN IT WAS FIRST REGISTERED IN GERMANY, NOT IN UK WITH DVLA.

IT ALSO CONFIRMED 330G/PER KM AS EMISSIONS...SO AT LEAST YOU KNOW!!

FEELING A LITTLE BETTER THEN 2AM THIS MORNING WHEN THIS POST STARTED!!!

Co2 is blank on my reg doc, but if i check the number plate online, it shows Co2 emmisions.
As far as road tax is cocerned, it's from the date it's registered in the UK.

Even if he dosen't, will alternate fuel vehicles be exempt?

I've booked my G55 in for LPG next week.

Re: Pimping my G? : Newbie Question

Hi Roly,

The guy has just finished fitting a 2nd 75 ltr tank to my Touareg, so I'm enjoying a greatly increased range between fill-ups.

I hope to achieve a similar capacity with the 55, i.e 120+ ltrs in 2 torpedo tanks. He still has to decide what is the best way to go. I've rear seats in mine, so tanks in the boot are out (I never liked the thought of those anyhow). She holds 21 gallons in her fuel tanks anyhow... so potential for 500 mile+ range

trust you and the family are well.

cheers

Mart

Re: Pimping my G? : Newbie Question

Martin,
We are all well here thanks.
I was interested in the factory tour pics of the military tank in the area behind the t/f box. It's about the only place where additional fuel could be put. That is my big reservation with lpg, the limited range on gas without removing the petrol tank.

Re: Pimping my G? : Newbie Question

just for reference, just lpging your vehicle doesnt guarantee exemption etc.
when i had a car lpged a few years ago i looked into lpg discount/exemption, your car has to be on a given list and you have to use a specific lpg component manufacturer, i think the list of cars is powershift? at the time there wasnt a vehicle on the list that was more than 3 or so years odl. the nett result is your chances of getting something off if you have a g is nil.
maybe i am wrong because they have changed the requirements, in which case my apologies, but make sure you look into lpg as a source of discount/exemption very carefully or you may end up a bit shocked!!!!

You are CURRENTLY right.... but unfortunately it will no longer be the case come October when alternative fuels are no longer exempt with the exception of electrics.....

That’s what you think! I am sure EU law for animal rights means you will have to pay a levy for each animal of burden you own! They guys in Brussels have realized some Mediterranean countries are not paying enough tax and so want to put a charge on all horses, donkeys and ass’s!

So I am afraid your AMG donkey, with the optional extra two wheel cart, buffed up hoofs, platted main and silver bridle will now attract a HUGHE EU levy and we have not even started on the emissions yet!! :P :P

Mountain bikes including BMX will be banned also, almost as damaging as 4x4s.
