Rear Jump seats and UK law?
Hi,
Is there any Law in the UK preventing you from having people using the rear (boot) jumps seats in a SWB G? I've heard a few times that you are not allowed to use them any more. Is this true or false? Do I need to fit seat belts?
Many thansk
Joe
I spoke to the MOT man about this. He said that if they were factory fitted w/out belts then they can be used as such legally. UK obviously. Different countries will vary.

So does that mean it needs to indicate it as such on your vehicle registration doc?
I enquired Jürgen Achilles about this during our visit to Graz. I specifically asked him why did they not offered the jump seats with seatbelts and he said that some modifications were required to do it properly; ánd that seatbelts for the third row seats in a passenger car were not required in the EU and that given that G production was to eventually be discontinued they were not keen on changing things.
they were fitted to Land Rover 90/110, RR & disco MK I & II for the UK market, side facing seats are "dickey-seat" meant for occasional use & as such at most only required "lap strap" seatbelt as per "centre seats" if are permanently fitted in a down (sitting position) or no seatbelt if can be folded up to save space, however most fold up dickey-seats have “lap strap" seatbelt anyway.
note: 3pt seatbelt are no good side facing seats as the shoulder strap is either lethal if it crosses the shoulder of the passenger nearest the front of the vehicle or utterly useless if it crosses the shoulder of the passenger nearest the rear of the vehicle & visa-versa for a rear end crash rather than the more normal front end crash ;)
My son had a 9 seat G' until recently and it was fitted with over the shoulder harnesses for four passengers on the fold-down seats..pics available on request

I don't know is the honest answer. Anyone with factory fitted seats have it included in their V5?
I thought inward facing seats and seat belts were a big no no ?
The reason being in an accident, if you are facing inwards the seatbelt can cause quite a bit of damage to the body especially to internal organs & the spine ( the spine is not really designed to bend left or right ! ) .
I looked into this when thinking of buying a LR 90. Also with the new legislation regarding booster seats for kids effectively ruled out using jump seats for kids

Perhaps this is the modification that Achilles was referring to: convert the seats from inward facing to front facing so that seatbelts can be fitted without serious injury risk to passengers...
I was so determined to be on the safe side in this respect that ended up buying a seven-seat ML instead...

I have jump seats in my LWB and V5 shows 9 seats, which was accepted by TFL for congestion charge exemption.....
