G320CDI fuel economy
Now we have passed the deadline for April Fools and established that my G is LHD I noticed marcus's comment about my posted fuel consumption on the run back from Salzburg - 22.2mpg over the 800 or so miles, and I had a think about it.
I must admit I hoped for better - 25-26mpg would be on par I thought. My wife has an ML320CDI and with a gentle right foot on a decent run, staying under 80ish you can achieve the quoted average which is 30.1
I thought the G should be capable of 25-26 on the quoted figures, I think it was 11.5 litres per 100km I have seen on the web - which if I can add up works out at 24.5 mpg
I reckon the wind resistance of the shape is the key, and that goes up really fast as you go faster. I spent a fair bit of time at 80mph, and a little above on the run back, and there was some wind about too. If you do a run at 60-70mpg say a motorway run when there is a reasonable amount of traffic just pootling along I would expect 25-26mpg but I'll report back
Max put up a link to spiritmonitor, and there is a G320CDI guy there who has put up 6000 km of data, his average looks to me like 12.94 l/100km which I reckon to be 21.8mpg
cheers Mike

On a long run I wouldn't expect a G320CDI to be better than 21.7 mpg doing all kinds of traffic.
Which reminds me that my humble G300D has averaged 22.5 mpg since I changed the engine!
But then again, it is SWB, manual and much slower than the CDI.
also consider its a new engine, it will take a while to ease up and bed in nicely and surely then youll see a slight increase in the mpg
My straight 6 e320 cdi certainly changed dramatically after 10k miles or so, i would say 10 % better economy, and torque!!
