I desperately need a shaft between the gearbox and transfer box for a 461, 290, WDB46133627114682.

The car is stuck in the Namib desert, Namibia and I will have to air drop the part.

It doesn't matter if it is new or 2nd hand, as long as I can get one.

So many guys offered help when I got stuck in rural France, so it is my turn help.

Thanks guys
Christo

WDB46133627114682 does not seem to be a correct VIN. Thus, I cannot give you a part number for it.

If you want to buy cheaper that at Mercedes, try Bailey Morris Ltd quoting the GWOA at 01480 216250.

Good luck.

Looking on the EPC, it appears that to chassis No 114,465 the part number for that propshaft should be A 902 410 00 02 (this one appears to have the traditional universal joints at both ends).

From chassis No 114,465 part number is A 463 410 07 02 (having CV joints at both ends).

How does your shaft look like? (do not laugh, guys)

Cheers

Re: Emergency

Hi Christo Vin No not good!!! but I believe that the shaft is the same as the one on the 460 5cyl manual G'box :? the crosses and needle bearings are the same and it is such a short shaft in cannot be bent.if the flange bolts came loose then you may have elongated holes to contend with.....How is life back in SA ? we do regular airfrieght shipments to our customer in J'burg...and the odd ocean container via Durban..

It is indeed a CV shaft. I will try to get the right VIN.

Just a thought but have you considered contacting the SA members on the pointed 3 forum - they might be able to help.

Hi Christo,
have you tried the local G-specialists in Windhoek?

The most comprehensive G-Part stockist is Orion Motors (061 232759)

You might also be lucky with:
Eros Service Station, Mr Mike Lobert: (061 236134)
George`s Parts: (081 2416857)

Good luck,

Harald

We are having a short shaft made up with universals instead of the universals.

Thanks again.

no Isa, leylandi is a type of connifer tree that grows really fast!!

ideal for screening off the garden for privacy but can lead to court cases with the neighbours.........

as for this thread, well i am proud to be a member of the GWOA and P3.

man, you guys have humour but at the same time are invaluable.

i think someone should post these types of threads to stuttgart head office and graz so they can see how involved G owners are.

Re: Emergency

Hi guys

My friend is out of the desert, in one piece. The made up shaft is working 100% and he will continue his tour through Namibia and Botswana after that.

Max I think he will definitely take the shaft, but I havn't got contact with him at the moment. I will let you know as soon as he has mobile reception again.

Btw do you know if the 461`s are auto or manuel? I am considering to sell my 55 for a 461, as I do not want to take the 55 into the bush.

All W461 290 GDT are autos... auto gearbox was optional on 290GDs
