I have no battery light when key is turned on and engine not running. also no light when running??
The battery is flat, battery light bulb is ok , the big cable to the alternator is 12v and the small wire is 12v when key is on
Should the small wire be neg??
Has anyone had is problem ?? Is it the alternator or wiring??

This is the method from a complete ignorant in car electrics:

Go to any motor factor a get yourself a digital multitester. They don't cost more than a few pounds nowadays. Star the engine and measure the voltage the the battery's terminals. It should be between 14 and 15 volts. If this is the case, your alternator should be OK. Otherwise it's bad.
