Re: Which engine?

Thank you, its filled out ;)

And now im getting a tad confused.

I've been looking at a car, The VIN number is 46023317038396 - problem is, its getting sold as a 1984, 300 GD with a 3.0 turbo diesel engine and a manual gearbox.

The signs on the doors says 300 GD aswell - aswell as signing on the rear, but the VIN, in my non-experienced eyes(and the russian site) seems to be stating something entirely different.

Anyone able to tell me why this seems to be conflicting so much - and perhaps give me the low down on the car? The owner doesnt know anything about the car, so he is of no help. (its a retailer, who got the car through a trade)

Thanks in advance,
Dariat

Re: Which engine?

That VIN appears as a 280GE on the epc. It appears that someone has transplanted the 300 turbodiesel into it, which is quite a common occurence now.
Technically, there is nothing wrong with replacing the engine, however, you would want to ensure that it is totally legal in your country and insurable.
Then you can examine the condition of the vehicle and check how well the conversion was done.

Re: Which engine?

Hello Dariat,
Mortison is correct in answering your first thread, regarding as the engine to be off a 280 GE - 460 chassis. This is a proper G-Wagen fitted engine and not from another model, say one of the saloon models.
Looking at you picture, this is definately a 460 chassis, however, a previous owner has modified this vehicle by fitting the front and rear bumpers from a 463 model and I notice he has done the same for the front headlight surrounds, front grille and the wing mounted indicators.
The door mirrors remain from a 460 chassis.
It could be quite feesable that that the vehicle had been converted from petrol to diesel. There were Turbo diesels imported into the UK, those that were turbo-charged at the time, were after market modifications.
I will try and get more info regarding the body type from the chassis you have provided, but a helpful M/benz dealer can do you a copy of print out of original spec. if you get the parts department to do you print out, all you will then need is the code book to explain what the code mean.

Re: Which engine?

Hi It was originally ordered by the MB dealer in the United Arab Emirates in 1984 as a 6 cylinder petrol with airconditioning and nine seats....at sometime in its life it has been re-engined to diesel....

Re: Which engine?

Strange that he would go through the trouble to change bumpers, grill, surrounds but not mirrors....

I also notice it is a bumper off of a 1997+ G with the intercooler slots in it.

Can you either take a photo of the engine or get the engine number of the installed engine?
