Re: Land Rover sale

i saw a Tata today going along and my girlfriend said in a horrified voice 'what on earth is that, its revolting' i then let her know that that is who will be owning landrovers and jags from now on, she couldnt believe it. do you think they will kill the mark or pump in money and let the same old people from ford days do their job?

i can see gold lettering as standard on the next rangie hehe

Regards,

Rakesh if you're referring to the Goodness Gracious Me gag it was (last time I checked) in a different thread.

(Seems that members are so excited about the news that they have multiplied the threads with the same subject)

If you have ever stayed in a Hotel owned by the TATA group you wouldnt be scoffing, and the UK steel industry has been booming since they bought Corus.
Must say the Frau is a bit peaved it was bad enough when her Jaguar pass became a Ford, notice they didnt buy Aston Martin altho production is moving to a European Country I wont give away where and which company but it's name may change to the Austrian Martin.

Re: TATA buys landrover

I worked for Air India in the late fifties and actually flew on the first Boeing 720 with the then president of Air India J.R.D. TATA (now deceased).even back then "BRITISH RAJ" class barriers were no longer obvious and he even chatted and ate with the rest of the crew. I am sure TATA Group will make a success of this acquisition....

Interesting - I didn't realise that Taj was owned by Tata...

I heard that Aston was going to be manufactured by a Canadian company.... in Austria.

I agree that the scoffing is out of the question, moreso when British, German and American owners have all failed making both Land Rover and Jaguar a success. It just reminded me of the GGM gag and I could fail not but laugh at the ocurrence.

I think Jaguar has seen the worst, and is starting to turn around. Only time will tell, but I think it has a promising future, and so much scope for taking a larger share of the market.

Re: TATA buys landrover

The biggest hurdle that Jag will have to overcome is that so many floor pans engines and components are shared with Ford and LandRover it is no longer seen as the uniquie brand it was, it is a sad fact that if it had not done that it wouldnt have survived any way and it was probably better than going the Honda or dare I say the Mercedes / Chrysler route.

Re: TATA buys landrover

on the note of jag, who here likes the look of the new xf?

i did till you keep seeing them it looks like a bland car i think,a mondea/laguna from the back and a far east car from the front. inside looks pretty cool though

Re: TATA buys landrover

I daresay Merc made a neat exit from Chrysler after losing all that money (and face). What if...Jag teamed up with a company with a lot of experience building lightweight AL structures and using adhesive bonding; namely Lotus (even if Proton-owned)!

The XF grows on you, but looks a bit un-Jaguarish, as you say a mix of different things. I think the XK is much more in keeping with the look...I hope they don't mess it up with the next model to be launched..
