Whilst servicing the A/C unit, I found one of the two AEG electric cooling fans not working.
I was considered lucky by the cognoscenti to find a spare in MB Hellas at 351 euro. I bought it and replaced it. No problems here but I was amazed that the fault had not been reported by the "malfunction" service of the CPU. It could have been potentially serious because the 2nd fan and Freon compressor would have been working above their designed capacity without me realizing it.
A complete A/C failure would have been very expensive.
I am not at all happy with this design oversight of the notification system.
Beware. Listen to it but do not place your trust in it.
Check everything: then again how long is a piece of string?

Re: A/C fan

I wouldn't expect the fan failure to show in the malfunction monitor. You would only notice if the A/C performance is not sufficient in traffic, or even if the engine temperature was increasing in traffic (high ambient temperatures).

Mercedes didn't even install electric fans in some of the 70's saloons with A/C. I have an original W116 S-class with factory A/C with no electric fan for it's first 29 years with no A/C failure. I had to install one as the A/C performance in traffic was never good during summer (in Cyprus summer temperatures are between 35 and 45 ' C).

Re: A/C fan

Instead of starting a new thread, thought I would build on this one....

So the other day was out in the wilds of Oxford, hot day, decided to use the A/C, everything going hunky dory when all of a sudden Fan and A/C stop. Having had this problem before I knew it was a blown fuse so actually did some 'owner' maintenance and changed the fuse!

The old one was a 20 and I had run out, so decided to use the 25 fuse.

Some questions;
1) will i do damage if I leave the 25 in?
2) as this has happened once before should I get the electrics checked over as there could be a short somewhere?

Many thanks
