Hi,
I'm reconcidering the sale of my 280ge van. But I'm not willing to pay the fuel bills of the petrol anymore so need to convert it to diesel.
Would it be possible to put in this car (280 ge manual) the engine and gearbox (automatic) of a 300gd from '83.
What needs to be changed will the engine supports and transmission supports have to changed?
What with fuel tank and fuel system.
I have maybe the possibility to aquire a 300 gd swb.
Body is terrible but engine has only about 155000 km.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Dirk why not convert it to LPG?? and keep the 280 performance...to retrofit a 300gd engine to the existing manual g' box is relatively easy but it gets a lot more complicated when trying to replace a manual G'box with an automatic one...plus the 300gd/auto box setup has Very poor perfomance characteristics.I have a LWB 280 ge auto with a 300gd engine fitted. 24mpg and 60mph with a following wind.it will be with me forever because it does not go fast enough to wear out.....I would sell it for GBP 1000 ready to drive away...if only ....
