Re: SH*T!

Thats a right pain if it's still in the locked position. The barrel wont come out in that position, may have to be angle grinded out if your unlucky, that means recking the housing as well.

If your immobiliser is in the key fob, you will have to have the new key fitted into it.

Re: SH*T!

Any hope of picking the remains of the key out of the lock?

Can you see the broken part inside the lock? If so, could you try using a small bit and drilling the key bit only and threading a small self tapper on to it and pull gently.

I suggest this 'cause this worked for me afew years back in a similar situation.
Another time when I couldn't get the key out I tapped it in further which released the barrell lock so I could turn the wheel again and for a few weeks a screwdriver started it.

Not very secure I'll grant you but it worked. Huss you are cringing at the thought of this I imagine as I don't think it would be your style.

Sorry for your trouble.

Regards,

Mike

Re: SH*T!

the key goes in the barrel fine but refuses to turn or unlock the steering wheel  its happened a few times ,and i guess its either the key thats worn[although it looks ok or the barrel is worn]

i snapped the key in my hand

not in the barrel :) as i thought it loked a bit bent :!:

i have found a locksmith that can apparently cut the same key spot on....

i will reveal all as the day progress' and the pressing piles up and up

Re: SH*T!

Hi Hus did you try rocking the steering wheel as you try to turn the key... the pin that locks the steering can bind from lack of lubrication and it does not slide easily if there is pressure from the steering column . a little WD40 sprayed into the keyhole and onto the key when inserting will free lazy tumblers in the the lock barrel.....when you get the new key of course.....

Hi Hus... only second guessing really....experience comes from boot lock seizure on Citroen ID 19 estate caused by the salty roads in Malta......glad it appears to have worked!!!
